New Year's in Vegas??

Has anyone ever done Vegas for the New Year? I see where they have outside concerts downtown at the Fremont St. Experience. Is this a cool place to be or just a mass of humanity that can become annoying?
I have friends who are looking into making the trip to see Neil Diamond Dec. 30th at the MGM Grand!

Much depends on how you deal with large crowds. It is a massive celebration and the city shuts down the Strip to traffic and the crowds spill out onto the streets and you end up with hundreds of thousands of people. If you don't mind crowds it is a great time, if you do, then you might not want to be there.

we did it two years ago, and it rocked (literally, we did the goo goo dolls concert at HOB ... our musical tastes are very diverse)
Neither one of us minds crowds, but didn't venture to the strip for the actual new year's festivities stuck to HOB. two friends did, and hated it. It was during post - 9/11 we're going to have nuke testers on the street fallout.
I'd do it. There's a lot of people, it's more casual than the summer and a lot of good live music. there are plenty of fun things to do on the actual new year's night so that you don't have to deal with the mega-crowd. Plus, Sunday is New Year's day, so you'll have football alld ay, in vegas, potentially dangerous. Not to mention all the bowl games.
I wanted to do it this year, but we're "stuck" in the bahamas.
