Best wishes for all involved, whether you knew them or not. Glad to not see any casualty reports so far.

3 injured in shooting at Fort Worth reserve base
03:39 PM CST on Thursday, December 1, 2005
By BRANDON FORMBY / The Dallas Morning News

Emergency vehicles could be seen outside a building near the air traffic control tower. FORT WORTH -- The Naval Criminal Investigative Service and the FBI are investigating after three people were shot Thursday afternoon at the Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base in Fort Worth.

Capt. John McCormack said a sailor shot two other sailors who are supervisors, then himself in the administrative building on base at about 12:40 p.m.

The sailors, whose names have not been released, were taken to Harris Methodist Fort Worth Hospital. The extent of their injuries and their conditions were not released Thursday afternoon.

Capt. McCormack said it was unclear what precipitated the shooting, but Fort Worth Police Sgt. Paul Ware said the gunman was a disgruntled employee. The suspect is in the custody of Fort Worth police.

Police and emergency vehicles surrounded a building near the foot of the air traffic control tower shortly after the shooting. Guards also briefly closed the gates to the base, but they have now reopened.

The base, formerly known as Carswell Air Force Base, is located on Fort Worth's west side and is home to nearly 8,000 reservists from the Navy, Air Force, Marines and Texas Air National Guard, as well as hundreds of civilian employees.

Fort Worth has taken a beating this week.

One of their policeman and a friend of a friend is on life support after being shot in the head.

Please hold Hank Nava, Jr., his fellow officers and family in your thoughts and prayers. Our friend is a Fort Worth police officer. Our friend's wife, also a police officer, was first at the scene. The department is reeling from this one.

Officer Henry "Hank" Nava died Thursday afternoon, two days after being shot in the head by an identity theft suspect wanted for parole violation. He was 39. Colleagues, city officials and friends praised his work ethic and dedication to his profession and marveled at his valiant fight for life.

Please hold the family of Hank Nava (widow and 2 small children) in your thoughts and prayers and remember his brothers in uniform.
