Good to hear that your kitty is back home :)

I would concur with Landshark's earlier post about Advantage.
Been using that on an older cat for 4 summers now, and it seems to work great.
No scary reactions or side effects... or fleas! :D

Thanks, Des and others, for all that valuable information. Having 3 cats, it means a lot to them for their "mom" to be aware of such things.

I better research pyrethroids (permethrine) use in the garden more...

Hope your fella gets to feeling lots better soon. I can imagine the emotions you all have been going through. Another big THANKS!

Don't worry. Freaky's OK.

I just wanted to report that we received a check refunding us for our vet bill,
and for the unused portion of our flea drops. How stupid! Why do they think
that they shouldn't have paid the extra $5 for the used portion? That's the part
that poisoned my cat, after all!
Oh, and their letter went on and on about how this was an EPA approved product...

FYI, this statement is not correct. All prescription medications for animals and humans are reviewed and regulated by the FDA. And, side-effects are listed...to the extent they can be determined (a bit tougher with animals). Over-the-counter products for animals are also regulated in a way similar to those of humans. But, as with human products, there are animal products that have not undergone the rigorous safety and efficacy testing (e.g. human alternative and herbal preparations), but in that case, they're not supposed to make any specific claims.

Sorry to hear about your cat, Des. Good luck!

wow, thanks for posting that! Glad your kitty is okay.

I have used Hartz shampoo twice on my 2 cats....throwing the bottle away right now!!! I think I had the dumb flea collars on for a while also..thank goodness nothing happened with those.

I am now using Frontline and topical spray to the house from the vet..... I heard Advantage was better than Frontline...any thoughts?

This is terrible. I killed a kitten once using flea dip and caused I believe brain damage to the other kitten. This was before advantage, etc. They were abandoned kittens. I had tried everything and they were getting sick from all the fleas. I diluted the dip but it still caused a major problem. I still feel badly about this.

Folks - this is all old news going back to the 80s.

Hartz and numerous other pet product and feed manufacturers have been turning out poison to cure "problems"

Its called organophosphate poisoning and can be passed on to the offspring of animals.

I have a friend who lost 4 horses to this s***.

And they have been banning it for years. Ever wonder why you no longer see the old "No Pest Strips"? Cause they were proved to cause sickness in humans.

My daughter found this out too late....her small cat now has seizures
due to using this.

the cat I treated with hartz dip ended up with difficulty walking. He could never get litter trained among other things.

Wow... I guess I should just bring this back to the top
every month or so as a public service, huh? I'm just
glad the end of the sale period for this product is only
a month & a half away.

Hartz is EVIL!!!!!

I was told by my vet back in the 70's to only buy Hartz toys - that using anything Hartz could be lethal to my pet.

Another thing you may want to avoid giving your pet - greenies. I've heard they aren't good for your pet and they make them for both cats and dogs.

If there are ticks in your area stick with the Frontline, Advantge has no effect on ticks. The weather here in PA has been so strange, I found a tick on my cat yesterday so it's an early dose of Frontline for her.
