I'm partial to the conch fritters with key lime dipping sauce at the Turtle Kraals

   I was wondering about that too.

You could always plug "kangk" into the text-to-speech program and see what they think it sounds like.
I can't even figure out how to say "kangk"....what does it rhyme with?

I have never met anyone born or reared on the ocean (at least the warmer parts where conchs are native) who pronounces it with a soft "ch."

It was kangk in the dictionary with those two little dots over the 'a'
I should have said 'konk.'

I agree it should be konk.

I once had an english class in which we read Lord of the Flies. Amazingly, everyone in teh class who had been to the Conch Republic said konk, and those who hadn't said konch. Such simpletons. :P

The same crowd that pronounces it with -ch like China are the same crowd that change their order after learning that Mahi Mahi is dolphin.
