Comparison (too much time on my hands)

Post by PHat Matt »

Having grown up a Parrothead, the foundation of my music taste is Buffett and artists from his time periods. On top of that though, I love my generation and have grown to like many artists from my generation. So, with such extremes, it is only natural that I like artists in-between Buffett's appearance in the spotlight, and modern bands (i.e. the 80/90s)...With such a broad foundation of music, analytical outlook on life, and love of sociology and lyrics, I've found a bunch of similarities between them..(wow I have too much time on my hands  ) I do this a lot, but I just found one that I HAVE to share..

This may make may of you shiver at the thought, and for political reasons I dont like Greenday..However, they have 2 good songs (Boulevard of Broken Dreams, and Good Riddance).

But these 2 songs seem to have a LOT in common:

-When the Coast is Clear, -Jimmy Buffett
"Hello Mr. Other Me, its been a long long time, we seldom get to have these chats, that in it's self's a crime..I come down and talk to me, when the coast is clear"

-Boulevard of Broken Dreams, -Green Day
"I walk alone, my shadows the only one that walks beside me....I'm walking down the line hat divides me somewhere in my mind"

I also see a strong connection between artists like Country Joe and the Fish and Dave Matthews. :-?
and Jimmy theres still so much to be done...

With 50+ years of rock 'n' roll, country, jazz, blues, R&B, soul and now hip-hop
there's surely gonna be some, hell, lots and lots of intersections from genre to genre.
It's usually the fusion of two that makes for the most creative stuff you hear today
(Kanye West, anyone?)

It's a tribute to your own growing musical breadth and experience that you can hear and feel the parallels...

oh.. and keep smokin' the good chit, lil' bro' 8)

I thought you were comparing Styx to someone!

Styx - Too Much Time On My Hands Lyrics

Sitting on this barstool talking like a damn fool
Got the twelve o'clock news blues
And I've given up hope on the afternoon soaps
And a bottle of cold brew
Is it any wonder I'm not crazy? Is it any wonder I'm sane at all?

Well I'm so tired of losing- I got nothing to do and all day to do it
I go out cruisin' but I've no place to go and all night to get there
Is it any wonder I'm not a criminal
Is it any wonder I'm not in jail
Is it any wonder I've got

Too much time on my hands,
it's ticking away with my sanity
I've got too much time on my hands,
it's hard to believe such a calamity
I've got too much time on my hands
and it's ticking away from me
Too much time on my hands, too much time on my hands
Too much time on my hands

Well, I'm a jet fuel genius - I solve all the world's problems
Without even trying
I have dozens of friends and the fun never ends
That is, as long as I'm buying
Is it any wonder I'm not the president?
(He's not the president)
Is it any wonder I'm null and void? Is it any wonder I've got

Too much time on my hands,
it's ticking away at my sanity
I've got too much time on my hands,
it's hard to believe such a calamity
I've got too much time on my hands
and it's ticking away from me
Too much time, too much time
Too much time on my hands
tick tick tick tick tick tick tick
Too much time, too much time!
You’re still grinning, we’re still winning, nothing left to say
I’m still gliding as I go flying down this endless wave

In Jimmy's own words-"Creativity is just undetected plagarism" :pirate:

Keep your eyes open, with a little love and luck you find even more and more
She was not quite what you would call refined. She was not quite what you would call unrefined. She was the kind of person that keeps a parrot."-MARK TWAIN

Hey Matt, I mentioned you to Peter Mayer last night in Atlanta. He said "Matt D****** (last name removed but he called it out) yea, he's great to work with"

Good job Matt

And all the harm that I ever did, Alas it was to none but me.

I'll gently rise and I'll softly call, 'Goodnight and Joy be with you all.'"

Well just look at you, with that freaky red hair and those big ole bug eyes. Don't worry we still love you though, but cute, no. :D
I've got coastal confessions and a few more, how about you?
