If I remember correctly, Mike Utley was the music director for that show. It showed him a few times playing piano.

and yes, "our Mr. Utley" was the musical director of the special Orbison show
that is shown as a fundraiser on PBS. I bought the DVD shortly after seeing
it on TV last December. It was the year before Roy Orbison died, and he only
agreed to do the show if it were recorded in black & white.
Michael Utley also produced a couple of Orbison recordings about that time.
EDIT: Oops! I stand corrected! Thanks Conched. I couldn't find the specifics on the DVD.

I got this DVD a while back and I went to watch and Michael is not the musical director-- T Bone Burnett is. Michael is the arranger/conductor.
Des, I was contradicting my own post and not yours.
Mike did produce
In Dreams, which was a controversial Greatest Hits of Roy Orbison, with all the originals rerecorded.

This says it all??
Additionally, he produced Roy Orbison's Greatest Hits album, and was producer/musical director for the Cinemax special, "Black and White Night" with Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne, J.D. Souther, Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello, and Tom Waits .
