If you think you're worthy of animal ownership, then you have to be prepared to give
practically all the care you would give to another child
Their children run wild, too, so I'm assuming they aren't exactly the best of parents, either.

The mother seems far more concerned with whoever's on the other end of her surgically attached cel phone than anything that goes on around her.

The father just appears eternally ticked off at everyone; plus he does about 60 through the development, which always goes over well, too.

I asked the township once if they could seize the dog, and they can only seize it if it poses a threat to those around it. The dog is as clean as one can be for living in a yard, and does not appear to be emaciated or blatantly mistreated (because they leave a bag of open dog food in the backyard :( ), so the humane society can't seize the dog either.

*sigh* Why can't I have normal, decent neighbors. I just have idiots living around me.

If it was even a long haired dog, I might not be SO p*ssed off.

if it was long haired it might be worse. They probably wouldn't take care of a long haired dog the way you need to and it would probably become very matted. They can get so matted they have sores under the mats.

I have no patience or understanding for any person who abuse an animal.

They don't deserve to have that dog. :-?

Sy? Thank you for calling the police. I just wish there was more they could do.

Well, cops just drove away, the dog got dragged into the garage, and the mother and father are arguing in their driveway. Got myself a note to be awake enough to check in the morning before I go to work. From what I could hear, they got fined again, but couldn't hear how much.

There's no way they don't know it was me, so I'm sure one of the idiots will wander down tomorrow at some point.

Schmucks. I hope I get them fined again in the morning.

I can hope, and thanks for the words, everyone. Hubby's in Pittsburgh this week on business, so I didn't have him to stand outside with me and complain with the entire time ;)

I am the dog person in my family. Hubby likes them but he isn't as crazy about them as I am. BUT...last weekend he came home with a big box. He told Jim to tape it up and cut an arch door in it, like a dog house. Then they filled it with hay, (leftover from fall outside decorations) and they took a bowl for water and dog food to this abandoned house. Now, if homeless pup on Rison St. has a home now, that the CRUD is these people's problem????

BTW, the low was about 17 that day. 9 degrees is crazy for any living anything!!!

There is a dog two houses down from me that I honestly don't think I've ever not seen sitting in the front yard. It is currently 9 degrees out and it is bitterly cold. Every station is saying how to check on the elderly and make sure animals are inside.

I go outside to have a quick smoke, and sure enough, the poor dog is sitting in the middle of the yard, crying. It's not bad enough that it's frigid outside, but the ground is still covered in ice and snow that hasn't melted.

I just called the police. Damned people. Just p*sses me off as to why they even have a dog.

Idiots.

Sorry......just had to rant while I'm waiting for the police.
Agreed....I get severely p*** about people like that. I called animal control on neighbors who left a dog tied to a tree with little food or water, letting the 12 or 13 yr old kids beat on the dog. I also told the little sh*ts that I would come over there and beat on them like that if I see them hitting the dog again :x

Now that is sweet. When I'm off and I know they're not at home, I'll wander down with some biscuits for the dog. He's such a big sweetie, and he is so starved for attention. He'll just sit there and look at you with a look between 'thank you' and 'help me'. It's just a shame.

Then I go home and look at my spoiled mutt laying across the bed half asleep and tell him 'You have no idea how good you have it'. Then he yawns and goes back to sleep.

The dog wasn't out there this morning, we'll see when I get home. It's supposed to less than 10 degrees again tonight, so I may be calling again tonight.

Several years ago one of my neighbors had a big and I do mean BIG sweet black lab. They would leave this dog outside on a 6 foot long chain all day and night, summer, spring, fall and winter. The Salt Lake City Police were over frequently issuing them tickets for animal abuse and for disturbing the peace (barking dog in the middle of the night). This went on for over a year and then one night the dog dissappeared.

My neighbors came over to my house and asked me what I had done with their dog. I was surprised that they cared enough to even ask about the poor dog. I was able to say with complete honesty that "I hadn't done anything with their dog". I didn't bother to explain to them that someone I knew had "adopted" their dog into a loving home. I figured I wouldn't bother them with those pesky details.

I didn't know ahead of time that a friend of mine was going to do this but as soon as the neighbors showed up I knew he had done it. He's a gruff old soul but one that can't stand to see animals abused.

Idiots....damned idiots.
Keep on them, sy.
If you don't, know one will be looking out after the dog.

Oh trust me, I do. They've been fined three times in the last year that I know of (twice I was responsible). All of the cops in our township actually live in our development, so they know. It's just ridiculous. The woman is obviously the one who doesn't want the dog in the house because I've heard her screaming about the 'filthy mutt' numerous times. I think the dog was bought for the child for christmas two years ago and the kid lost interest in the dog, so it was relegated outside and has been there ever since. The first time was a warning, the second was a 50.00 fine, and the third was 200.00. This time should be 500.00. Common sense would just dictate that you give the dog to the humane society and end the hassle.

The cops are down there talking to them and i can hear her arguing with the cop (I'm sitting on my porch. I love wireless :) ). Idiot.

I'm just glad I know full well they know it's me.
you need better laws. In Florida, if animal control is called more than twice (and if they find abuse is indeed happening), the dogs are confiscated from the owners.

As long and hard as I have thought about that, I know they are the typical people that would love a chance to sue me for something. I've talked to the local shelters a couple of times and it's a catch 22 of anything that can be done because the dog is not a threat and does not 'appear' to be abused.

The best I can do is just keep calling the police. I know they'll keep issuing the fines, and eventually, something will have to give. I yelled at them in the summer about just giving the dog to the humane society (of course, I won't repeat the lovely words they had back to me), but then, I'm not one to back down from a challenge. So we'll see when I get home if he's out there.

Easy answer - wait til dark, take the dog, remove the collar and drop it off at a non-local shelter.

I understand that you don't want to be sued.....you don't have a"friend" willing to take the dog??? Thats how I got in on the Great Dane Heist......it was the dog next to one of my friends houses....she wasn't "in" on it...so they could never pin it on her...

If we could get him to stop barking long enough to do so, it might work. That's the biggest problem. At night, when people walk by, he barks. A lot (and yes, the police have been called because of that as well!)

Plus I don't know how he would react to a stranger trying to remove him.

Suggestions on those two issues?
