I'm going to Austin next month. Any recommendations on places to go for live music? Cool bars?

Stubb's also has great BBQ. It being Austin, there's obviously lots of choices for Tex-Mex but I have a soft spot for Chuy's. For live music I recommend The Parish, Antone's, La Zona Rosa, hell, almost anywhere down there. And for music, it's really hard to beat Waterloo Records. I could spend days in there just browsing through the vinyl. If you get a chance to tune in any local radio by all means don't pass KGSR by. For an entertainment guide, it's hard to beat the XLent (link below). Also, if The Gourds are playing anywhere in town and you like a mix of country, rock, and zydeco, don't miss 'em.

Donn's Depot: http://www.donnsdepot.com/ My sister and brother-in-law used to work there, but moved back to Pittsburgh to attend nursing school. I haven't actually been to the bar, but you can get the idea from the web page. They just left this morning for a long weekend; their friends at Donn's bought them tickets and gave up their shifts for them to work this weekend. Really great people!

Threadgill's for the best chicken fried steak you'll ever wrap your lips around.

BookPeople - fabulous bookstore.

Central Market - just for the experience.

Enjoy!
