Yankee swap at work

Hey all,

Just looking for any suggestions for the yankee swap at work for our Christmas party this week. I have a hard time thinking of things to buy for my family, nevermind a uni-sex present that would work for anybody at work. I suppose I could always go the gift-card route. Theres a $15 limit on the gift also.
Thanks

CVS has got a lot of fun items I noticed last night, like a hotair popcorn popper shaped like an old timey popcorn cart - $15... a chocolate fondue fountain for $25, but it could be marked down in your area... My husband brought home a new set of red kitchen canisters from his "White Elephant" party at work last year (That's what we call it in the South. ) One time I got a really nice garden hose, and everybody else had really wanted it!

CVS also had a new fangled wine opener contraption, and a wine rack for $9.99 each... Go look around and you'll find something this time of year!

I'm sooooo glad you clarified what a Yankee Swap was. I was thinking why in the hell would any self respecting southerner swap another southerner for a yankee?

We did this sort of thing at my last job, I usually just brought a bottle of booze. Didn't even bother wrapping it a couple times.

I felt like saying, if we called it that here, no one would come!

I saw it on "The Office" last week; they started with Secret Santa gifts, and when the boss didn't like the homemade oven mitts an employee gave him, he said, "Let's do a Yankee Swap." It was pretty funny... especially when people opened a new gift that was personalized for whom it was intended. Everybody wanted the Ipod the boss had bought for a temp employee, who of course didn't get to keep it. :)

Don't have any suggestions.

At work we did a secret santa thing where you buy something for the person based on their initials. Deshawn Brown got a Dodgeball (both the DVD and the actual ball) but mostly everybody just goes to alcohol. MIngs is done.

We have the exact same thing at our office this year. My plan is to do maybe something like a bag filled with the necessities to go to a buffett concert (grass skirt, coconut bra, leis, mardi gras beads and then throw in maybe a shaker of salt, mini bottle of tequila. My other idea was a set of margarita glasses and a copy of a buffett concert or something.

well they threw it out on Tuesday and it was due thursday. not much time
to shop and I  was not smart enought to think of a
bag instead of wrapping a gift. I was like.. What can I get and not need to wrap.. :pirate:

But I do see and did not really like the gift card..
but given the time frame I did what I could...

I personally hate to give a card... But I had little choice
BUT if I had thought of a gift bag and not a having to wrap a gift
I would have shopped some more for a gift

also it was as 5$ limit...

the PH club also has a 5$ limit but
I won the Football game at work so I have 0$ in it... :pirate: :pirate:

and I bought a bag to put this gift in :pirate: :pirate:

<<<<< still haven't wrapped a gift this year :pirate:

I thought a White Elephant gift exchange was with something you had laying around the house ... nothing required to purchase.

I've been to two so far this year and they have been so much fun!!!

Especially if you can "steal" another's gift ... up to three times before it's "dead."

Anyone want a singing Dean Martin doll?

The dean martin doll sounds awesome! :)

A friend of mine, her hubby had the white elephant that you bring something from home. He took his old sump pump as a joke. He's had a lot of plumbing problems at his house and people are always kidding him about it. It was a huge hit!
