Try the Barefoot Bar & Grille on Paradise Point
This is a great spot with an "island vibe" on Mission Bay for Happy Hour -

Actually a lot more of San Diego is geared toward the "fiesta" attitude that comes with sharing the border with Mexico! 8)
You'll find more tequila shots than piña coladas! :P :P :P
$#@&...only Vegas again?? Padres ...gotta start believin'!Bring on '14 Spring Training!

My husband just got back from a business trip there. He went to Lou & Mickey’s which is a pretty good steakhouse and an Irish pub called The Field.

The Field is cool cause they separated out the building in Ireland, then shipped it over here in pieces and rebuilt it.

Another fun place he went to was Dick’s Last Resort. I don’t recall if it was Dick’s or the seafood restaurant called Rockin’ Baja Lobster that instead of a regular lobster tank, they had them in one of those mechanical arm games where you try to pick up the stuffed animals. I have a picture, but I’m too dumb to know how to paste it in here!

None of these actually have a Buffett theme, but they're still kinda neato. All of these restaurants are in the Gaslamp District. You can link to them from www.gaslamp.org

Don't forget to hit Tijuana. You can take very easy to use public rail cars all the way down. Its worth a half day trip.

Ooohhh. Actually....

The beach we went to in Encinitas (I believe between San Diego and Carlsbad) was doing a weekend concert series during the warmer months. That looked kinda cool to check out. We didn't while we were there because we had other plans.

Welcome!

I live in downtown San Diego next to the water, and here are my picks:

Best View of San Diego while eating:

Peohe's in Coronado.

Hawaiian themed restaurant across San Diego Bay from downtown San Diego. If you are staying in downtown San Diego, you can pick up a small ferry boat at the Marriott Marina which takes you right to the place. Good food, awesome view.

Great Ocean Front Dining & Great historic Hotel:

Hotel Del Coronado.

Awesome view from lunch spot, hotel built in 1880's....really something to see.

Great downtown bars:

Irish - Dublins on 4th & Market. All Irish staff, and I agree with the other post - The Field one block over on 5th is great. I live two blocks away....and stumble home a bit from here.

The Bitter End on 5th. Good crowd, three floors.

Great La Jolla spot: Goerge's at the Cove. Lunch on the rooftop by the ocean is awesome.

As for Buffet bars...well.....not much. However, lot of cool bars downtown on 5th...just walk down the street.

Per chance you are staying at the Marriott or Hyatt downtown, I keep my boat at the Marriott on F Dock. It is a 59' Navigator power cabin cruiser named "Hotel California". If you see anyone onboard, stop and say hello!
Boats, (Tour) Buses, Bentleys, Bars & Babe (wife)

22 years of Buffett with 131 shows and counting!

If you haven't been there before, Tijuana is very interesting...when I lived in SD, I was 20, so hitting the bars in TJ was my only option (no fake!). All along Revolucion, the main tourist bar drag in TJ, there are plenty of bars and shops, but be careful- it's still Tijuana!

But the drive down to Rosarito along the Pacific is great...check out Papas&Beer while you're there, too!
Keep this in mind:
Most car rental companies' insurance policies are void if you go into Mexico, so consider that. You can get additional insurance near the border, but I don't know the details.
Couldn't be me in the gorilla disguise.
