I second the recommendation for Southern Culture on the Skids, Todd Snider (who can be a tad on the country side) and Shakira. Can't really say I see the similiarity between SCOTS and Buffett other than they both have quite a few songs about food and they both are fun-packed live shows. If you do attend a SCOTS show I suggest not wearing your Sunday best because the food (naner puddin', fried chicken and the occasional watermelon) tends to fly. For starters I suggest Dirt Track Date. You may have even heard "Camel Walk" which was a minor hit for them back in the mid-90s.

Good ol' rock n' roll in the manner of the Stones, Faces and NRBQ with some infectious pop hooks thrown in. "Gityoassupdaroad", "Thunderbird", "Purple GTO", "Feel A Drunk Comin' On" and "Rehab" oughta get you started. You may have even heard one or two of Terry's songs in the past: "Battleship Chains" by the Georgia Satellites and "I Love You Period" by their former lead singer, Dan Baird.

John Hiatt Master of Disaster

Another in a long line of solid efforts from Mr. Hiatt. He's been on a roll in the last few years with Crossing Muddy Waters, The Tiki Bar Is Open, and Beneath This Gruff Exterior. He's backed here by the North Mississippi All Stars but they by no means dominate the proceedings (not that that would be a bad thing). If you're familar with his work at all, this is rootsy flavored rock at it's best with some very great lyrics. Bubba doesn't cover his songs for nothin'.

Sonny Landreth Grant Street

On the Hiatt/Buffett tip (just in case you aren't aware, he's a sometime guitarist for Buffett and also backs John Hiatt as one of the Goners), I can't recommend Grant Street highly enough. Landreth is that rare breed of virtuoso that feels no need to showoff his talents and instead, let's the music do the talking. If you're a fan of blues mixed with a heavy dose of zydeco and rock, then I think you'll really enjoy this album. He's also a wonder to see in concert, his "slydeco" technique always works the crowd into a dance frenzy.

Donna the Buffalo Life's A Ride

Staying with the zydeco theme, I suggest this latest album by Ithaca, NY's Donna the Buffalo. They stir up a mix of zydeco, reggae, rock, bluegrass and a little country that makes for a very potent stew guaranteed to induce a case of dancin' fever. Also one very kick ass band live, you won't be able to sit still, even during the slow numbers.

no no no don't like rap. I like some hip-hop which has a reggae feel. Big difference here. Remember I teach high school so it probably makes a difference as to what I listen to.

Shaggy's latest album, Clothes Drop is really good if you're into to reggae with a hip hop feel to it.
His other albums, Hot Shot and Lucky Day are also really good.
