Jimmy Buffett as Freddy & The Fishsticks
Sat 12/31 9:30 pm ET
A rare intimate concert with Jimmy Buffett originally broadcast on Radio Margaritaville on December 21, 2005. Only a few hundred people witnessed this very special benefit show that Jimmy performed as his alter ego, Freddy and the Fishsticks, just last week in the mountains of Colorado. Now, as we get set to ring in the New Year, this concert becomes the soundtrack to your end-of-year party.

This is from Sirius web site:

I also heard they will replay the Millenium show first.

I heard part of that on RM and remained puzzled. What is the deal with the alter ego? Anyone know the reason or at least have an explanation?

does this help Betty?
Freddy and the Fishsticks is the moniker Buffett uses for his occasional under-the-radar gigs and recordings. When Freddy and the Fishsticks were last booked in Aspen, in 1997 at the old Double Diamond, it was Buffett and his band who showed up on stage. When the Freddy and the Fishsticks name appeared on the label of a 45 rpm record some years ago, the voice covering Steve Goodman’s “Elvis Imitators” sounded strikingly similar to one that typically sings of beaches, bars, boats and a tequila drink.

In Tales From Margaritaville, Jimmy refers to Freddy Fishstick, and in an early interview, that I unfortunately can't find, Jimmy speaks of his imaginary childhood friend, Freddy Fishstick. I have seen Jimmy perform as Freddy and the Fishsticks on 4 occassions. Twice at the Catalyst in Santa Cruz Ca, once at the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco, and now once at the Belly Up in Aspen.

To my knowledge, it seems to be the name he uses when he plays in smaller clubs. I have seen him with a full version of the Coral Reefer Band ( girls included), a very scaled down version (Michael and Robert) and the Aspen version.

As I stated in another post, I was surprised that he did not play the Filmore show earlier this year as Freddy and the Fishsticks, but perhaps due to the historical importance of the venue and the honor of playing there, he wanted it to be Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band. That is a question I would love to ask him someday.

I'd also have to wonder if the fact that Fillmore was a hurricane benefit tipped the scale toward JB and the CRB rather than Freddy.

Yes, this does help along with the subsequent posts. My book Tales of Margaritaville is currently out on loan. I will look for the chapter that was mentioned as soon as I get it back.

However, it sounds like his F&TF monniker has its cover blown so thoroughly, he may have to come up with another one! Everyone be on your toes so as not to miss a performance.

Thanks all.
Betty

Not unless you follow Jimmy. Especially if he is playing a small venue like the Belly Up, there's more of a chance of a watchful, loyal parrothead getting tickets to the show than someone not really knowing who Buffett is.

Dang-it! gonna lose my 30 second advantage for setlist posts now.

But you do have to actually be there (here) when it's live...

I am glad they are replaying this show so soon, not only because it was so excellent, but because there was not a very good "alert system". I only found out about this show 2 days before, and from all the posts, and vine growths, I suspect I was not the only one non-informed.
