My AA degree will be done completely online, but I'll have to actually go to all my major courses. Still makes it easier with family and hubby and such. I can be reimbursed 100% for tuition with my employer and 50% for books. However, Colorado has a tuition stipend for Colorado residents and graduates of Colorado high schools, so I'm going that route and not using company so I don't have to meet their major requirements.

you need to look online. yahoo, amazon, and ebay all sources for used books. There are other sites devoted just to this. I've found that often the edition doesn't matter. My daughter had a professor tell her that when they order text books the book store automatically upgrades her order to the newest edition.
So if you find an older edition find out from prof if you can use it. I'll be back in school in january too.

When I was in college I would check the course catalogue and only take the classes that had a copy of the textbook in the library. I would buy my books and take them back the next day, send a copy of the reciept to Mom and Dad, pocket the money to spend on beer. I would then make nice with the Librarian who would pull the texts for me every tuesday and thursday afternoon so I could study and get my homework done.

This system worked great. In my entire college career, I may have actually purchased about 5 books. I had lots of beers on Mom and Dad, and they were never the wiser. I also graduated with honors.

Library? My school ain't got no stinkin' library! At least not the online consortium I'm going to now, although I could go to the library of any of the area community colleges. However, that somewhat takes away from the benefit of taking my courses online (which equals being in my pajamas and bunny slippers).

I don't have time for all that buying, returning, reimbursing. I'm 31. I'm not sure my mommy and daddy would understand.

using library texts only works if you live on campus. But definitely look better for cheap used. If you are getting any financial aid you could be entitled to a refund for books, etc.

No, I lived off Campus the whole time, I just devoted five days to drinking and partying and two days to studying, Tuesday and Thursday. I did it on campus. I was able to take the majority of classes on Tuesday and Thursday, never took a Friday course, or I skipped out on Friday and went to prof office hours on Tuesdays. Took all my labs on Wednesdays, and if I had to have a monday class, never before 11 in the morning.

Sorry about the Online issue Mal, I can understand the need for bunny slippers. But if your local library carries any of your books, you can check em out and renew em. If they have a firm renew policy, just get your kids a library card, and have them rotate checking out mommies books. I'm sure the librarian will understand the little ones taking an interest in college courses so early. It's a competitive world we live in.

Thanks so much, everyone, for your input. I'll be able to take 2 classes this term and with any luck at all I'll have my degree before I'm as old as Larry. :D

I didn't use books in school after freshman year. I found them to be expensive coasters, plus I'm not the refined type to use coasters anyway, so I just drank more and cared less about the furniture.

Did they have any creative writing or copywriting classes?

Creative yes, copywriting, no. Thinkin' I should switch the technical to creative?

Would that make a difference in the job market, even w/out having finished my degree since ya know what I'm aiming for?

I can handle the World Geography without breaking a sweat but the tech writing, yikes, that's not a good one for me. Give a yell if you need help with geography.
