Sad Chicago News-Berghoff Restaurant Closing

Post by ejr »

Because this is such an institution in Chicago, I figured that many of you who are not from here might still be interested in knowing that the Berghoff Restaurant, in business in Chicago for over 100 years, will close its doors forever on February 28th.

It is one of my favorite Chicago institutions, and I always have lunch there when I am downtown to go to a play. I also plan an alumni event there (we have done the event 8 years now) for anywhere from 80-150 people, so I now have to scramble for another location.

Thank you for sharing this with us. I had the pleasure of dining there at least twice, both times before theater shows. Maybe I can sweet talk BadHabits into taking me one last time before they close.

Bummer! That was a great place to eat. We ate there many times when we lived in Chicago, and several times when we came back for visits (since 2000). Did not get a chance to go there over Labor Day - more important things to do :D.
Hey Snake, we need more wine!

I never made it there, but just told my folks...Dad had many a dinner there when he was a very young, overworked insurance agent.

yep. rattbastage. "It will make the Loop safer..." (if I take the only radar station watching the lakefront offline, and if you discount the fact that an airliner from either ORD or MDW could do way more damage than a GA craft launching from Meigs with the same lack of time to prevent it...)

With any luck at all, he'll be wearing prison greys and being passed around like candy after dark in a maximum security Federal prison facility soon enough.

Trader Vic's is just closing and moving locations. The drawback is that with both it, and Berghoff's moving, there is no reason to use the Red Line at either Monroe or Jackson.. :D
