Well, most of the area anyhow since AB has it's fair share of those type of stores geared strictly towards tourists. I'm headed elsewhere as well but not because of the gentrification of the area, one too many hurricanes have amounted to the straw that broke the camel's back. One can only rebuild so many times before enough is enough. I hate like hell to leave the coast but I've been left little choice.
Ever been to Tybee?? Speaking of tacky...
and ditto...I don't want to..but it's looking that way...
Hello! So do you still live in Charleston? I saw in an earlier post where you said you grew up there. I vacation there every year (Folly), going again this June.
I have been to Tybee, back in I think the summer of 2004 or 2003, I can't remember. I was disappointed with it I must say. I didn't like the beach as well, and it was just kinda run-down and used-up looking. Like maybe its heyday was back in the 70s-80s. I could be wrong about that though; I don't know much about it other than that week I spent there. But any beach is better than being stuck in a land-locked state anyway!

No...I left Charleston 18 yrs ago and came here, to Amelia Island...kind of Charleston , in miniature..
But get back to Folly as often as I can..I love Folly Beach!!
Lived there for years....Love the great Blues bands I can hear at The Sand Dollar...the new pier....It's just a fun little place...
When the preview of Trip Around the Sun came out on cmt.com? I recognized it right away... !
Charleston is only 4 hours , at the most , from here...
Check us out here sometime...Island is only 2 miles wide...bordered by the river on the West and the Ocean on the East...and only 14 miles long..

Great place to vacation...you can either walk , or ride a bike and get just about anywhere you want...PM me if you want any details...I could work for the Chamber..I love this little place...just not what they plan to do to it in the years to come...
(maybe it won't happen!

)
Good morning everybody!!! It's FRIDAY!!!!!!!!
You know, I'm not familiar with Amelia Island (thanks for the link; I'll look at it from home when I have more time and won't get interrupted), but it sounds wonderful! That summer we went to Tybee, I looked at Fernandina Beach (I think that's what it's called), because it was pretty close to Cumberland Island, GA. Have y'all been there? That place is amazing, used to be just one old woman whose family had owned it for generations living there, and you could take a boat for a few hours over to the island and hike, go to the beach, etc. But in the past few years, I've read on their website that they now have a campground on the island, and it's making me wonder what else they're going to do with it/TO it; scary. It was such a wonderful, unspoiled little paradise. I'm still depressed that the island has its own website.
The summer we went to Tybee, it rained every single day that week, so we ended up doing a lot of driving around and exploring. Came across this nature reserve called Harris Neck, on Rt 17...GORGEOUS! Also came across this thing called (I think) the Liberty Trail, which is a trail out in the middle of the woods in BFE, but you can DRIVE on it.
Hmmm......I will have to think about Amelia Island though for the future! We already have the reservations for Folly booked (bunch of us are renting a beach-front house--whoo-hoo!). I have family in Deltona, FL so they'd love it if I went there and could meet them.
Have you been to Folly since they did the big beach refurbishment? When we went last year, the strip of beach we were on had just been completed (thank goodness; some people had equipment on their beach all week!), but I've read on their websites that it's already eroded quite a bit. This year we're right next to the washout, so I'm going to rent a board and try to teach myself to surf. That ought to be entertaining!!!!
