Before the Salt
I've been trying to find a place where I can buy this on CD, and while I did I stumbled upon this forum. I could not find it anywhere, and my questionto you is this: Was Before the Salt ever released on CD?
Actually, I checked a track listing of Before the Beach and it is missing a few. It is missing The Christian, Richard Frost, and Ain't He A Genius. From what I have been able to gather off the internet, Before the Salt is a compilation of the two and Before the Beach has all the songs except those three and it has one extra, called, I believe, Cumberland Dilemna.

There have been a LOAD of cds that have those songs on them. Before the beach and High Cumberland Jubillee both have High Cumberland Dilemna on them. Though one has it Cumberland High Dilemna on the track listing I believe.

I'm guessing Barnaby records (if it still exists) sells the rights to anyone willing to pay for them and put out a record. If you want Buffett approved ones, I would stick to those 3.

The editions of Down To Earth and High Cumberland Jubilee released on Varese Records several years ago are your best bet. They include the original artwork as well as some bonus tracks. It's obvious some thought was put into the release of these versions as opposed to the many other editions of these same records that are also out there.
Well, there actually aren't any bonus tracks except on the reissue of High Cumberland Jubilee ("Richard Frost" is listed as a "bonus" track for Down the Earth when it was actually on the original recording, likewise "The Christian" was left off of many of the reissues, including the "official" one called Back to the Beach on Margaritaville Records). I recommend these versions on Varese Records because they are faithful to the original artwork and include all of the songs that appeared on the original albums (with the exception of "Cumberland High Dilemna" which appears on High Cumberland Jubilee). It may not mean anything to other fans but it means a lot to me that someone went to the trouble of using the original artwork and songs. Many of the permutations of these two records don't include all of the songs and are packaged very poorly. More info here:Jarn wrote:What bonus tracks? I don't really care about artwork, the music is what interests me more.

Upon closer inspection I see that Now Yer Squawkin' features all of the songs from Down to Earth and High Cumberland Jubilee:
