How great is that? Even Anderson Cooper is speechless !!!
WOOHOO
Now we find out only one miner survived....somebody really got the wrong message out to those families. Can you imagine the joy of learning they were alive and you would see your loved one, then to learn they all but one were dead. Well, at least they had a few minutes of joy before the grieving process began.

Do not resent growing old. Many are denied the privilege.
WTF? At around 11:30 PM (eastern) they were reporting that 12 of the 13 trapped miners were alive. As of 2:30 AM they were still reporting the same news. CNN was actually interviewing the families and people in the crowd. How the hell does a story of this magnitude get reported wrong for at least three hours??

the problem lies in the fact that that's what WAS reported. The media wasn't told..along with the family, although sources say that they new 20 minutes after the mistake had been made, but didn't tell them for 2 hours! By that time..newspapers were already to print..because newspapers are usually done by that time.

Happy New Year, huh? That is really awful!!!
CNN is your answer like a lot of other half assed news agencies they report what they want and what is popular to get people to watch, not the truth or what is actually news.

Yep, that must have been it .... CNN made up a story so they could boost their 2:00 AM ratings.

if anyone would've been in a rush to meet a deadline, it would've been the newspapers...alot of which have the incorrect headlines today!
It is my understanding that the call came into the church that 12 men had been found. They had said they had to check vital signs and such. It was misinterpreted. Once the news spread though, it was impossible to contain. The governor said that he immediately headed to the mine to try to get a confirmation. So basically, the media began reporting this without the official confirmation.
oh it's just sad how this happened. I don't blame anyone really. The communciation is almost as much a tragedy as the accident itself.
Blame the media when it is to blame-in this case, the blame is misplaced. Somehow word was given to everyone, including the families of the miners, that 12 had survived. If the families were told this, there was no reason for the media to withhold the information, or for them to believe otherwise.
Someone's head should roll for this, but in my opinion it should not be the media.

oh boy..this is hard to deal with. I mean do you criticize the mine rescue team that risked their lives to go in there and save these men? I don't think so. Do you criticiaze Intl. Coal Group for misinterpreting? maybe so. Either way..this coal company is in 'deep'.
The fault lies in the not correcting the information 20 minutes after they realized it was wrong.

I was awake at 11:30 PST, and I checked out all the major cable news (in amazement) as this story was breaking last night.
CNN had it. Fox had it. MSNBC had it...
yes, there was a rush... but it was a rush of hope.
$#@&...only Vegas again?? Padres ...gotta start believin'!Bring on '14 Spring Training!
I think you have to blame the media for this. It's the 24 hour cable news mentality of being the first with the scoop. Instead of waiting until the story was confirmed, they all rushed to get the "news" out. Forget being first, worry about being right.
