Doggie Names

Post by mings »

Building on Christina's Dog thread, I thought of this. What is a better name for a dog: a people name (Charlie, Frank, Hannah, Mary Jane) or a "dog" name (Sparky, Bruzer, etc.)?

If you vote "doggie" name, then give a name.
"Oh all the money that e'er I spent, I spent it in good company.
And all the harm that I ever did, Alas it was to none but me.
And since it falls, unto my lot, that I should rise and you should not
I'll gently rise and I'll softly call, 'Goodnight and Joy be with you all.'"

When hubby and I were in a "get a Dalmation" phase, we were gonna name him/her Apacalypso and call him/her Paco for short.

Doggies need doggie names. Doggies aren't people. They are dogs. However, sometimes adding "ie" to a people name can name it a doggie name.

For example, our neighbors down the street have a dog named Frankie. Crotch sniffer extraordinaire.

I have pets with "pet" names and pets with "people" names. For example, my German Shephard is named Shadow and one of my cats is named Evie.

For me, naming a pet is kind of like naming a kid.....it depends on the personality. Mine are Rosie and Gunner..which fits them. Rosie is the princess and Gunner is the bulldozer.....but I've had dogs named Sparky, JJ, Snoopy, Ginger....and a cat named Bob...

I'm kind of on the fence as I've owned a dog a growing up named Reggie and also recently Sage ( with an ex-girlfriend that she got Sage in the "divorce") and now Bucca who was named that before I got her.

if it is a mythical person, is that a dog name or a person name?

we had Samoyeds years ago (BIG dogs with long white fur)
the Male was named Gandalf, the female Galadriel

always wanted to have a Samoyed named pepper and a Newfoundland (BIG dog with long black fur) named salt

Place names are good for dog names: Dakota, Montana, Memphis, Tupelo, Dallas, etc... ("Indiana was the dog's name.")

I like 'doggie' names, but sometimes a people name just fits right, i.e., my dog Sam.

Let's see, for my dogs, past and present, it's been Sable, Baylor, Cashel, Krillin, Poptart, Waffle, and Homefrie (they were 3 siberian huskies, and my grandmother let me and my cousin name them....it's was early in the morning ;) )

I want 2 dogs- a boy and a girl. Captain & Morgan.

I had a friend who had a black lab, Guiness.

Houston was a fine golden retriever I once knew with the best personality.

And I named my friend's rottie for them, Dulaney.

I have one now named Balto. He is my friend's and he was born in SC, but she was from Baltimore. Sometimes we tell people he's named after the hero sled dog, tho.

My fish is Bulldozer. I think I was drunk.....but it is funny. For a fish anyway.....
