Won't be a show in Joliet til they tear down the World Music Theater. Then maybe move the show to the Chicagoland Speedway which could hold over 100,000 easily for the show, with plenty of space for camping.

Though on another note for Joliet--the ballpark, Silver Cross Field will be hosting at least 7 concerts there this year, though no word on what shows it will be yet.
OOH I didn't know Silver Cross Field was holding concerts!

• Silver Cross Field: Promoter to make announcement this month on summer lineup

By Charles B. Pelkie
Staff Writer

JOLIET — The JackHammers baseball organization is working with a Naperville-based promoter on a 2006 summer concert series for Silver Cross Field in downtown Joliet.

Group 7 Marketing declined this week to release the names of the acts it will book into the stadium on the seven Saturday nights the JackHammers are playing away games.

But Joe Hill, Group 7's president, plans to announce the summer concert lineup during a press conference that includes the city's elected officials on Jan. 17 at Sapphire, a club in downtown Joliet.

Hill said Group 7 was looking for a first-class venue in a downtown location that could seat between 5,500 and 7,500 people.

Silver Cross Field, which opened in 2002, has 4,500 seats, but can accommodate 6,500 patrons for baseball games if its berms and picnic areas are packed.
Steve Malliet, the team's general manager, said the stadium can accommodate an additional 1,000 to 3,000 seats on the field, depending upon where a concert stage is located and provided there is adequate protection for the greens.

Hill said the acts will cover a variety of different musical genres, ranging from classic rock to Latino to classical. Group 7 also is targeting Christian audiences with a possible performance by John Tesh, he said.

"We're definitely looking at some top-notch entertainment," Hill said.

The promoter is trying to keep ticket prices within the affordable $25 range.

The quality of the minor league stadium, plus the opportunities for dining and entertainment in downtown Joliet before and after the concerts, appealed to Group 7, Hill said.

"Silver Cross Field fit our requirements very easily," he said, adding that "it's as fine a facility as we've ever seen for these purposes."

Tom Mahalik, marketing director for Joliet's City Center Partnership, said the series will be a boon for downtown Joliet's bars and restaurants.

"It's huge," he said. "We've always seen a nice spinoff from the JackHammers when they're in town. These concerts are going to fill a huge void for us on the weekends when they're gone."

Silver Cross Field has limited experience with concerts. The eclectic Poi Dog Pondering, a popular Chicago-area group, performed for about 1,500 people in August 2003. Malliet said the concerts proposed by Group 7 will be on "a bigger scale" and should fill the venue.

The goal, he said, has always been to get as much use as possible out of the stadium, which the city built at a cost of $25 million. City officials have talked for several years about bringing concerts to the ballpark, Malliet said.

"I'd like to see us fill up every weekend this summer," he said. "It would be great for downtown Joliet."

The JackHammers lease the stadium from the city. Group 7 would sublease the stadium and run the events.

Then you get let down. I don't think he'll disappoint this year. I heard there is a remote chance he will play the hawg stock right after warrant. http://www.hawgstock.com/ that is so close to my house I would invite all bn'ers to camp somewhere on my acreage.
Well, that's where the down boys go- right? I heard Slaughter was going to be there too.

jackyl played it last year, didn't make it but by reading their guest book looks like it was a good time. There was some complaining...letters to the editor etc, around here about bikers coming to town, shower stage, drinking, immoral acts, etc. It was quite funny. Didn't really notice much change other than a few more motorcycles and the fuzz was everywhere. I'm also hoping for some Ratt.
