CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) -- The American singer and activist Harry Belafonte called President Bush "the greatest terrorist in the world" on Sunday and said millions of Americans support the socialist revolution of Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez.

Belafonte led a delegation of Americans including the actor Danny Glover and the Princeton University scholar Cornel West that met the Venezuelan president for more than six hours late Saturday. Some in the group attended Chavez's television and radio broadcast Sunday.

"No matter what the greatest tyrant in the world, the greatest terrorist in the world, George W. Bush says, we're here to tell you: Not hundreds, not thousands, but millions of the American people ... support your revolution," Belafonte told Chavez during the broadcast.

The 78-year-old Belafonte, famous for his calypso-inspired music, including the "Day-O" song, was a close collaborator of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and is now a UNICEF goodwill ambassador. He also has been outspoken in criticizing the U.S. embargo of Cuba.

Chavez said he believes deeply in the struggle for justice by blacks, both in the U.S. and Venezuela.

"Although we may not believe it, there continues to be great discrimination here against black people," Chavez said, urging his government to redouble its efforts to prevent discrimination.

Belafonte accused U.S. news media of falsely painting Chavez as a "dictator," when in fact, he said, there is democracy and citizens are "optimistic about their future."

Dolores Huerta, a pioneer of the United Farm Workers labor union also in the delegation, called the visit a "very deep experience."

Chavez accuses Bush of trying to overthrow him, pointing to intelligence documents released by the U.S. indicating that the CIA knew beforehand that dissident officers planned a short-lived 2002 coup. The U.S. denies involvement, but Chavez says Venezuela must be on guard.

Belafonte suggested setting up a youth exchange for Venezuelans and Americans. He finished by shouting in Spanish: "Viva la revolucion!"

It was silly of Harry Belafonte to go to Venezuela and say those things about GWB.

However, what is George Bush doing with Iraq?

I am sick of driving along and seeing flags at half staff because another kid from Michigan was sacrificed for a very cloudy cause.

When is it going to end? It was over two years ago that GWB had his "Mission Accomplished" party on board an aircraft carrier. What has been accomplished?

Iraq is free, the Republicans say. Well, then, why can't our troops come home if Iraq is really free? Why are there kids from Kalamazoo, Conklin, Sparta coming home in body bags from a place half way around the world from their homes if Iraq is now free.

Please figure out a way to conclude your war, Mr. Bush.

Thank you.

Bush is doing what should have been done YEARS ago. He has done nothing wrong. All these people get on George for Katrina, wire taps, and the war? What is wrong with America?

The response to Katrina was the state's fault, not federal. It is the state's responsibility to act alone or ask for help in the event of a natural disaster. Louisiana didn't ask for help until it was too late. The wire taps that were conducted were done in response to individuals deemed a threat, not the average American population. The war on terror is going much smoothly than people think. The war is just and our presence is bringing alot of hope to nations in dispair.

Bush is a great president, and he is doing a good job. I wouldn't want anyone other than Bush in the white house at this time.

Belafonte and His Ilk Ought to Be Shunned

Let me state the obvious. I am not a fan of President Bush.
I believe that presidents ought to be smarter than their fans.
(I believe that presidents ought to be smarter than a fan.)

I do believe that President Bush lets his big ole heart lead him in his decisions, and lets the smarter people around him worry about the details.

I also think that Harry Belafonte lets his big ole heart lead him in his decisions. But his decision to open his mouth about our national policy with one arm around Hugo Chavez was a boner. And he needs to get his facts straight about hurricane response before he shoots his mouth off again. (It could have been a little better, yes -- but it could have been a whole lot worse if those evil corporate Repugnicans actually had genocide on their minds. What a putz.)
