I learned gaelic when I was little, learned Italian from my husbands family, was forced to take 4 years of Spanish in high school (it was that or french).
Cooking is like love. It should be entered into with abandon or not at all..

10 year spanish
1 year French
2 semesters Italian
3 Years Latin
2 Years Greek

Spanish and Latin are my best. I know some french - fries, toast, kiss, vanilla.
"Oh all the money that e'er I spent, I spent it in good company.
And all the harm that I ever did, Alas it was to none but me.
And since it falls, unto my lot, that I should rise and you should not
I'll gently rise and I'll softly call, 'Goodnight and Joy be with you all.'"

i could probably fake it at italian if i needed to. mil and sfil can both speak italian. hubby is italian. teach a few italian phrases here and there to the kids too.

i can usually read in a foreign language much better than i can speak it or understand it (spoken).

Well, I'm sure with enough practice, that's a problem he could lick.

Amen. Thus endeth the reading from the Book of Linguistics. (A fitting climax, don't you think?)

Oh, I would say that I have been considered a good cunning linguist.
