Oddly German and French are the preferred languages for history majors. Some grad schools require you to be fluent in one or the other. I didn't do too well with French. I actually switched to sign language so I could keep my good gpa.try German. everything is spelled just like it sounds, and as I remember (high school was a long time ago) the grammar, etc, wasn't too horrible. I had an easier time with German than with French
I would like to try Latin. The reason I have the tough time with languages is because I can't grasp when somebody is speakng to me at a normal speed with an accent. I would do well on the written work and lose on the verbal portion.
Sy - My grandmother and great gran used to yell/curse at us in Gaelic. I would like to take it. I am taking a course in medieval irish history if I can get in as an overload.

Spanish and German.
I agree, here in SoCal you almost need to speak Spanish (if you want to know what the clerks in the store are saying about you!)
