Aerosmith Hints the End is Near

"We're definitely closer to the end than to the beginning..."
Thursday, January 12, 2006
Busy rockers Aerosmith have hinted their touring days may soon be over, after recognizing that they're not going to "live forever".

The band admits their hectic schedule, which included a tour with Lenny Kravitz at the end of last year, is becoming increasingly hard to sustain and they are looking at life beyond music.

Guitarist Joe Perry says, "We're definitely closer to the end than to the beginning, and the number of times that we are going to play is a finite number.

"When you're young or even middle-aged, you figure that you're going to live forever and you don't care. But it's different when you get to the end of it.

"First of all it's pretty strange to have a rock band when you're this age, and even stranger to have one with this much energy.

"You can go out there and walk through this stuff, but we always try to keep the edge."

Bout Time.

Saw the last 2 shows of the American leg of the 99 show (7th row both nights) and it was slacking then. They should just hang it up and go out in style.

I can't say a whole lot about their the majority of the albums they cut once Joe Perry rejoined the band but when I last saw them (Get A Grip Tour) they were still kicking ass like nobody's business. If they decide to retire I think it's something they've worked very hard for but it's also not something I intend to celebrate. If nothing else those first four records stand as a cornerstone of the best 70s rock had to offer.

In the future would you be so kind as to provide a link to the articles you post? It would be greatly appreciated. I tried using Google to locate this one and have had no luck whatsoever doing so. Thanks.

Aerosmith Can't Stop Rockin'

Just warmin' up

AEROSMITH have added five more weeks to their Rockin' the Joint Tour, now wrapping April 9th Vancouver. Starting with the Hollywood, California, show on March 2nd, the veteran Boston rockers' 2004 tour partners CHEAP TRICK will sub in for LENNY KRAVITZ, who has been on the road with Aerosmith since last October.

The end came for Aerosmith long ago, when they transformed into a 3-chord power ballad band.

Pity, too. They used to be one of my favorites....saw them live. Twice!
But they've only put out one song in the last decade. They've just changed the words and put out that same song over and over and over again.

I totally disagree. Even though I can't see any connection between Aerosmith and Jimmy Buffett, other than the fact that they are all in their mid to late 50's (OK, Tom Hamilton is only 54). I saw Aerosmith in Greensboro, NC last Saturday, 1/21/06.

AEROSMITH TOTALLY ROCKED!!!

Before this week Aerosmith had 41 shows booked from Oct 31 '05 through Feb '06. Now they added 14 more shows for March! No wonder they are getting tired! Jimmy only did something like 35 shows in '05, but he spread this out over 8 months.

We had 3rd row floor at the end of the left cat-walk. So very intimate for the current setup, "you people are all some crazy motherf!@#ers!", Steven said. Steven Tyler can go head to head with Jimmy for usage of such 4 letter words...

Aaaah, probably yes, but that particular song is a very, very, very good one...

Just wondering why there should be a connection between Aerosmith and Buffett?

Aerosmith may still be a great live band but very little that they've done since reforming is nearly as good as their best work (the self titled first album through Rocks). What they've become is a power ballad heavy band that's more interested in MTV exposure and tailoring their songs for radio airplay. The one possible exception to this is Honkin' On Bobo.

Maybe by announcing the end of touring is near will help them sell more tickets........they don't sell out too many arenas anymore. Their old stuff is their good stuff.

Aerosmith Spring Into Action
Recharged rockers plan to hit the studio after Joint tour

Aerosmith, whose last studio release was 2004's bluesy, covers-heavy Honkin' on Bobo, will start work on a new album in late spring. "It's going to be just like what the White Stripes are doing, and like a couple of songs on Sheryl Crow's new album," says frontman Steven Tyler. "You'll listen to it and be like, 'I've heard that before' -- but you never did." The band hopes to release the new album by year's end.

"I want to take elements of those experimental things like we did on [2001's] Just Push Play," adds guitarist Joe Perry. "I always start with bits and pieces, and hopefully they inspire other people to throw things in. I have stuff that I didn't put on my solo record [2005's Joe Perry] that may be up for grabs."

But before they return to the studio, Aerosmith have some business to attend to: They've recently extended their Rockin' the Joint tour by five weeks. Lenny Kravitz has been rolling with them since October, and Cheap Trick will take over support duties beginning March 2nd.

Aerosmith are especially enjoying getting back to their roots on this outing. "We're re-establishing our foothold as a rock band," Perry says. "I think that got a little blurry when we came out with those last few ballads. Every year we go out, there's another generation of fourteen-, fifteen-, sixteen- and seventeen-year-old kids who are interested in hearing classic rock, and that's the backbone of our set."

Actually the 2/3 show (tonight) has been rescheduled for 4/11, and the show for 1/30 (in Denver) had already been rescheduled for 4/13, "due to illness".
I tried to figure out who's ill by scanning the Aerosmith boards, but all I could find is that it is probably Steven Tyler, and something seems wrong with voice and/or throat.

I would consider Get a Grip and Pump the two best new albums. Otherwise the newer albums aren't that great.

Thank God. They're still treated like gods up here in Boston even though they haven't put out a good song or album in almost three decades.

Even Honkin' On Bobo? I hear even the Aerosmith diehards that only like their early stuff even like this one.

I'd say it's more Aerosmith's fault for bringing in outside writers on some of their songs (but most noticably the atrocity known as "I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing") in order to assure MTV/VH1 airplay. Also, the need to always have a schmalty-ass power ballad such as the gutwrenching "Amazing" on each album. Aerosmith were good at power ballads ("You See Me Cryin'") before they had a name but when the hits started happening again they felt the need to turn out one formulaic hit after another. While there may be a few good tunes in their latter day catalog, most of it is shite.
