I know my main objective if I were to stash away down there, would not be to hear him but to see him, give him a big hug, smooch on the cheek and then pass out at his feet!ccmatt wrote:You can't hear anything.SchoolGirlHeart wrote:Interesting... Studio location??
I am vacationing in the keys next week and will be making a few excursions down to Key West - does anyone know the location of the studio? I want to add it to our walking tour....
Any other JB landmarks...besides the obvious Margaritaville?
Thanks for any answers!!

Sue, welcome to the boards. Shimpboat studios is a white building located on the marina beside the Conch Republic Seafood Restaurant. There are no signs or windows or anything, it is an old shrimp locker. You can walk right beside it on the boardwalk type walkway down there. Do yourself a favor and stop at the Schooners Warf for some beers and then head to the Half Shell Raw bar for some raw oysters and some smoked fish dip (very good!)/.

I missed this when it was posted, but the thread just came back up...ccmatt wrote:You can't hear anything.SchoolGirlHeart wrote:Interesting... I wonder if you can hear them. Actually, you can hear, if you're sitting on the steps behind the studio or standing by any of the shops on the lane that runs beside the building. I doubt any outside noise makes its way in, but you can definitely hear music (but not conversation) from the outside.

I don't know if there is a particular "sauce boss", but it's a lyric from "I Will Play for Gumbo"...fun song!LittleMrMagic wrote:Forgive my ignorance, but who is "Sauce Boss"???

The sauce boss does his cookin' on the stage,
Stirrin' and a singing for his nightly wage.
Sweating and frettin' from his head to his toe,
Playin' and swayin' with the gumbo
Prayin' and buffetin' with the gumbo

There is a Sauce Boss, Bill "Sauce Boss" Wharton. And he really does cook up a big old pot of gumbo on stage while he's performing.Quiet and Shy wrote:I don't know if there is a particular "sauce boss", but it's a lyric from "I Will Play for Gumbo"...fun song!LittleMrMagic wrote:Forgive my ignorance, but who is "Sauce Boss"???

this weekend in Tallahassee! Bill is a great guy and a fun, talented entertainer,
but he doesn't "do Buffett" like a lot of parrotheads might expect him to. He's
definitely a "blues man". Listen to some of his mp3 clips on his website.
And the 'sweatin and frettin and prayin' are all very accurate.

Take the Trails of Margaritaville tour, that will give you a lot of JB/KW history, and sometimes, right by Shrimpboat Sound.danjulia wrote:I am vacationing in the keys next week and will be making a few excursions down to Key West - does anyone know the location of the studio? I was told they skip that part if it is in use, so that might be a sign.
