Guitar Question

Post by Reefdiver »

OK...so, I'm looking to buy an electric guitar. My daughter plays, and it's always been something I wanted to play. I'm pretty new to playing...still working on changing from one chord to another smoothly. I know I'm never going to be another Eric Clapton, I just want to enjoy playing it for myself. I don't need a 1958 Les Paul or anything like that. Just something thats decent, plays well, and feels comfortable. I'm kinda leaning towards a Fender. I figure that if I ever want to upgrade, or even if I decide to stop playing, a Fender will be easier to sell. I found a used Mexican Strat at the local guitar shop, but it's a cream color, and I really dont think I can get used to that color. American made Fenders cost a bit too much for my level of playing.Went to Guitar Center and found a Squier Strat there that I do like. It's not one of the bottom dwelling type Squires that are really made poorly. It feels good, plays good, and looks good too. My daughter wants me to get a Schecter, but I'm not gonna be playing a lot of heavy metal type music, so I've pretty much ruled those out. So...my question to you guitar players is....any suggestions? I'm looking to stay in the $200 - $350 range, but would be willing to go slightly over that if I found "the right one". Thanks 8)

for some of the best prices, selection, and delivery to your door - it is tough to beat these guys. Look at the top sellers category (on the left) for some excellent deals.

as far as which one is right for you, it really is a matter of taste, and a function of what you play most often. My boss plays in bands on weekends, and has over 30 electric guitars of various makes. He uses different ones to get closer to the sound of the songs they are covering. Another friend is president of the local blues society, and will play nothing but his Fender.

The Guitar Center has something called a Strat Pak, Fender Squire with small Fender amp, seems like it was less than $300, great for a beginner or just for messing around. That's probably what you're referring to. I've played it and it's not bad. The Mexican Strats are pretty good too, biggest difference between the Mex and US strats are the electronics, primarily the pickups. You might check out ebay, they have dozens of Strats, as well as many others.

The Fender Squires are decent electric guitars for beginners. That was my first guitar.

I have looked for a year. The Schecter series has one with a push pull knob that allows more versitility. It's the diamond series. Also, after looking I found that an amp can really make a difference. That guitar I mentioned is between 400 -500

Lee I was told that Fender because of it's single pickups are mostly good for blues sound. Is that right?
