http://www.nascar.com/2006/news/headlin ... index.html

On Monday, Knaus was suspended from the Daytona 500 and all other activities leading up to the race, just 24 hours after Johnson's car failed post-qualifying inspection in the rear window area.

Sources close to NASCAR said Knaus likely will receive further suspensions for California and possibly Las Vegas, reminding that Todd Berrier was suspended for four weeks and fined $25,000 last season for doctoring a fuel cell on Kevin Harvick's car at Las Vegas.

An appeal to reduce Berrier's suspension was rejected by the National Stock Car Racing Association.

Knaus could appeal further suspensions, but there is no appeal for this week because Knaus technically was ejected.

"In the NASCAR rule book, we can take emergency action to eject somebody from an event,'' NASCAR spokesman Jim Hunter said. "That's what we used here.''
I saw this on the news late last night.....what was he thinking??????
Knaus has a long history of poking holes in the envelope of the NASCAR rulebook, and NASCAR has had enough! He has a reputation as a shameless brown-noser, which explains the reduction in penalty last year. Mike Helton got tired of being accused of favoritism.

I'm heading out on Sunday morning for my first ever NASCAR race. We're sponsoring Bill Elliott in the 36 Chevy. I'm told it's a good car, and he may actually have a shot. We'll see how he comes out in the qualifying on Thursday.

My 6 predictions for the 500:

The "big one" will happen and wreck a bunch of good cars

Mark Martin will be one of them and say how much he hates plate racing

Michael Waltrip will run ok but have some kind of mechanical failure

Michael will mention all of his sponsors during his post failure interview

No matter what Kurt Busch does, he will get booed

A Chevy will win and that dissapoints me

I agree

NASCRAP is wrong to black flag Carl Edwards  . Fine, next time just drive into the back of a slowing car and try to kill each other  . NO wait, NASCRAP will call that wreckless driving
That had me kinda confused too... I thought Edwards was right for going under the line... and it's not like he gained any position from it

Did they impound the 48 or just send him to the back of the field for the twins?

I cant believe they would let him fix it and use the same car. He must of gone to the backup.

From Jayski.com:

Johnson could had lost car to NASCAR: After his #48 Lowe's Chevrolet was disqualified after post Daytona 500 qualifying inspection there was a chance Jimmie Johnson was going to lose his primary car for the 500. However according to NASCAR's Vice President of Competition Robin Pemberton; "We are not going to take the car. They'll be able to run that car. There are some things we need to work on when we get in the garage area Wednesday morning but the cars fine." Nextel Cup Series Director John Darby explains, "A lot of times you can hold an illegal part or piece in you hand. Then there's other situations where you use what is a very acceptable, very normal and very legal piece on the car and create a procedure that turns that part into something that it shouldn't do." Darby went on to explain what his inspectors found following pole qualifying. "Basically the pannard rod adjusting bolt had an additional clamp on it which enabled that adjusting rod to not only adjust the pannard bar but while the pannard bar was being adjusted it jacked the rear window up." The 48 team must now correct the illegal part for the car to be able to return to the track.(PRN's Garage Pass Radio Show)(2-14-2006)

Since their qualifying run was disquailified the 48 will start at the back.

Makes sence now.

Now if we can only get the 24, 20, and 8 starting in the back, the Fords might have a chance.

He was already in, but now he won't have to fall back on his earlier time, and he gets a better spot.
As if that wasn't cool enough, we are also acting as home base for the FedEx team, so the #11 cars are right outside my office.
