Jah, you're getting a little worked up over this. There's no need to attack anybody, even if it's in jest. This is a simple debate. Deal with it and don't take it personally, nor make it personal.Jahfin wrote:There goes your lack of comprehension skills again or maybe it just comes from getting a law degree out of the back of Rolling Stone magazine but no one has ever proved racing isn't a sport. For something that's been in existance as long as automobile racing you'd think if it wasn't a sport someone would of concluded otherwise by now. Fact of the matter is, they haven't. It is recognized as a sport the world over.LIPH wrote:Let's deconstruct this statement.Jahfin wrote: ... if racing isn't a sport it has never been dispproved.

My opinion is that it isn't.

Sounds like you just proved my point. It has never been disproved that racing isn't a sport. Thank you. The prosecution rests.

Damn, I didn't know mindreading was one of your skills or that you'd taken over this site and now have the right to tell people how and what to post. I can't help it if your argument is weak but I've got some news for ya, auto racing is a sport. So is motocross and the other activities you mentioned.mings wrote: Jah, you're getting a little worked up over this. There's no need to attack anybody, even if it's in jest. This is a simple debate. LIPH wrote:What proof? I've seen a lot of people, on both sides, say they think it is or isn't a sport but I haven't seen any facts that would convince me one way or the other. My opinion is that it isn't a sport. Other people's opinion is that it is a sport. But that's all it is, is opinion.

If you leading a race your on the defense. 2-43 positions are on the offense to take the lead
Category 2: A competition of measured performance -
DUH, the finish line is the measurement. And the faster a car goes and the faster the crew works, the better a driver can be
Category 3: A head-to-head competition to a fixed point - the drivers skill and talent is in driving a 200mph, 3500lb. car with 42 other drivers for 3-5 hours straight. And drivers DO go through strenght training
Dude, did you get beat up a lot in grade school that you're such a wise guy now. They are skill tests ....... not a sport of strength/fitness. ...Jahfin wrote:Damn, I didn't know mindreading was one of your skills or that you'd taken over this site and now have the right to tell people how and what to post. I'm staying out of the "is auto racing a sport" argument, because it's pointless to argue opinions as fact. However, to say that driving a race car or race bike is not an activity that requires strength and physical fitness is ridiculous. In fact, I'd venture to say that it requires a higher level of fitness, as these drivers don't get to rest, as do athletes in just about every other sport.creeky wrote:They are skill tests ....... not a sport of strength/fitness. ...Jahfin wrote:Damn, I didn't know mindreading was one of your skills or that you'd taken over this site and now have the right to tell people how and what to post. It will if the guy with the good motor isn't fit enough to keep his physical and mental concentration sharp for the duration of the race.creeky wrote:It is engine and skill v engine and skill ... being fitter than someone else wont get you a win - if you have a crap motorrednekkPH wrote:I'm staying out of the "is auto racing a sport" argument, because it's pointless to argue opinions as fact. Apparently you can add "Define Sport" to the subjects that can not be civilly discussed here (along with religion, politics and whether prawns are better eaten with cocktail sauce or drawn butter).mings wrote:Dude, did you get beat up a lot in grade school that you're such a wise guy now. you could probably make a case for spelling bee's as a sport than. The mental concentration is obvious and towards the later rounds those kids have to stand for an extreme amount of timerednekkPH wrote:It will if the guy with the good motor isn't fit enough to keep his physical and mental concentration sharp for the duration of the race.creeky wrote:It is engine and skill v engine and skill ... being fitter than someone else wont get you a win - if you have a crap motorrednekkPH wrote:I'm staying out of the "is auto racing a sport" argument, because it's pointless to argue opinions as fact.
