A lady who works for the Midland Daily News (Just around the corner from our store downtown) just had to give up her second guide dog.
They make them retire after a certain amount of years. And the guide dog people say it is impossible to keep an old guide dog with the new one. They don't want to give over their duties easily. Luckily for her, her brother has been able to take hers when they are retired. Since he does not live with her, it works out.
I saw her new dog for the first time the other day. She now has a shepherd rather than a golden lab.
I hope you are able to take the dog and that it works out well for all of you.

While I'm always a proponent of giving needy dogs homes (be it legally or not
), I'll stick my .02 of reason in. You know best whether it's going to be a strain on the two of you, your schedules, and the house. I pushed hellbent for 2 dogs, and when it came down to it and I took a look at the bigger picture, it was just going to be too much on everything, so I let it go and treasure my one pup.
In the end, if you think it'll be too much, something else will suffer, even for a good deed.
If you and Christine think it's difficult but do-able, the initial stress may well be worth it in the long run to have another family member and give a hard working dog a well deserved retirement.
It's hard to put aside the 'wanting' to do it to realize whether or not it's truly feasible and not too much.
I know that was probably long winded and a bit rambling, but hopefully I got the point out I was trying to make
Good luck either way!

Cooking is like love. It should be entered into with abandon or not at all..

Yeah, it will. He's had a tough time talking about it all week. I can't even begin to imagine the bond that has formed between those two. Fortunately, we only live about 20 minutes away, and Lenny and his family can come over anytime they'd like to visit.pbans wrote:I'll be that will be kind of a tough day for Lenny.
