I will say this, and I'm not biased or anything  , but at Panthers games, NOBODY in the section I sit in or surrounding sections, is hollaring anything at the opposing team's fans. Now I'm sure there are some rowdy sections at the stadium where anything might go, as well as drunks who say things they shouldn't, but I've never run into them. Maybe I've just been fortunate to sit in nicer areas but that is just not something I've run into and I've sat right beside, behind and in front of other fans (Dallas fans on Christmas Eve), no body said anything except "good game" or whatever!
IMHO, it may have something do with the team's longevity. The Giants have been around for 80 + years and get passed from generation to generation. I am not disocounting the loyalties of any Panther fan but the teams only been around for what 11 seasons. I am sure it is iomportant to the community but the Giants are deeply rooted in the area ( NY/NJ). Again sorry people were jerks but I say you'd encounter much if the same in most any northern city with a deep rooted fan base.

Being from the Northeast and not being a fan from any of the area teams......The Giant fans are the best and most knowledgeable football fans around....not to many problems there...except for the snowball incident......The worse fans if you root for the opposing team...Patriots......Jets....Bills.......won't risk Philly

Philly is a risk.

When I travel and see a game with my team not in our turf, I shut up. I know my place and I respect that.

I figured out long ago to enjoy the ride when they're winning but it really doesn't matter that much in my life when they lose - I have much better things that make my life complete

So true. If you want to support your team, especially with a sign, don't come to Philly then. If an outsider (read fan of opposition) doesn't get harrassed, then there's something wrong. PLus, a sign is just a way of making a target, and soft pretzels and beer cups are drawn to targets.

Just a word to the wise.
Yeah I mean they even boo Santa....
boo'd Santa? They peleted him with snowballs. :o

there's a story behind that supposedly. I don't know it.

sorry to hear that :)

As far as dealing with it I am a Jets fan so it has become common palce for us. I also used to be a Met fan as LIPH, but when my kids started watching baseball they picked the Yankees, so I switched too. As far as loyalty it's only a sporting team and not a country. And BTW, they are not paying me so i go with whoever gives me the best run down the playoffs.
I respectfully disagree. Sadly i'd be far more likely to switch my allegiance to Canada then the Red Sox. :)
oh, I wasn't even thinking of Red Sox  , I'd switch my allegiance to France before I did that. The Yankees can have their players but Red Sox will never NEVER NEVER get my alleginace. Since whenever we go we are "Bleacher Creatures". Need I say more?

We went to the 8/27 Philly concert and as we were going down the ramp after the concert, all the Philly fans were chanting, "E A G L E S --- Eagles!!" My keets wanted to counter with "G I A N T S --- Giants!!" and it was all we could do to keep them from doing it!! We realized we were in a 'foreign land' and wanted to get home safe and sound!!

My husband was travelling for business in Philly the Thurs/Fri before the Denver/Philly matchup in Denver.

He was the only one on the plane wearing a Bronco jersey. He said the ribbing was all good natured and fun and the Philly fans kept him good and liquored up on the flight home. Was the best flight he'd ever had.

Of course, I'm sure he was happy it was the plane ride BEFORE the Broncos spanked 'em.

I also feel lucky for alot of the things I have in my life and don't need sports to make me feel my life is "complete" as you say. I just enjoy it.

I don't get all worked up over it because none of the teams I root for are "my" teams. I don't own them, I don't work for them, I don't play for them. I'm just a fan. They win, I don't get anything. They lose, life goes on (at least for a little while longer).

Fair enough. I technically now work for the league the Yanks play in. I guess that's something...

Unfortunately, I haven't had much to cheer for as most of my teams haven't played a meaningful game in a long time. The most recent was the Steelers cheap shot against Carson this year. But it happened so early I pretty much knew we had no chance even with a halftime lead. However, back in the day when Coach was leading the Hoosiers it was life or death. Every game was the end of the world, but I loved it. Mostly because we won most games. But when we lost, holy schmitt, stay the hell away. Any loss to Purdue would take at least two weeks to dissipate. The worst loss of all time was the Elite 8 loss to Duke in 1992 or 93 when Ted Valentine stole the game from us. Even with the lopsided foul calling we still almost won with Todd Leary hitting threes up until the last minute. We were clearly the better team and absolutely had it ripped it from us. Even worse, Puke went on to win it all. Basically, it takes alot of sulking and drinking to get over a bad loss. It's gotten easier on my psyche since Coach went to Tech because expectations aren't as high as they were at IU. This is probably better for my body and mind, but truth be told, I miss the days of worrying about upcoming games, sweating through each second, sitting on the edge of the couch, and eventually jumping up and down when the clock sounds and we win or falling to floor and almost crying when we lose a heartbreaker. It's all about the adrenaline and love. Most people will argue that it's just a game, but it's really not.
