Being a Redskins fan since I was 3 I have lived through just about everything with them, winning, losing, losing, losing and finally winning again this year.

Regardless if they lose 41-0 or 7-6 I always blow my stack when they lose to the Cowboys (not this year anyway you damn punks  ) every other loss depends on how they do it.

When they lost this year to Oakland, San Diego and Kansas City after having a huge lead in the 4th quarter I felt no symphathy for them at all they deserved it. I was really p*** off when we got screwed against the Broncos and Buccanners but what can you do about it, if they would have held on against someone else those two losses would not have meant as much.

I have favorite teams in other sports, I can't get as passionate about them as I do the Redskins. I used to be as passionate about the Braves but not as much anymore.

Baseball- Braves
Hockey- Penguins
College- Tennessee

Duff wrote:Unfortunately, I haven't had much to cheer for as most of my teams haven't played a meaningful game in a long time. The most recent was the Steelers cheap shot against Carson this year. But it happened so early I pretty much knew we had no chance even with a halftime lead. However, back in the day when Coach was leading the Hoosiers it was life or death. Every game was the end of the world, but I loved it. Mostly because we won most games. But when we lost, holy schmitt, stay the hell away. Any loss to Purdue would take at least two weeks to dissipate. The worst loss of all time was the Elite 8 loss to Duke in 1992 or 93 when Ted Valentine stole the game from us. Even with the lopsided foul calling we still almost won with Todd Leary hitting threes up until the last minute. We were clearly the better team and absolutely had it ripped it from us. Even worse, Puke went on to win it all. Basically, it takes alot of sulking and drinking to get over a bad loss. It's gotten easier on my psyche since Coach went to Tech because expectations aren't as high as they were at IU. This is probably better for my body and mind, but truth be told, I miss the days of worrying about upcoming games, sweating through each second, sitting on the edge of the couch, and eventually jumping up and down when the clock sounds and we win or falling to floor and almost crying when we lose a heartbreaker. It's all about the adrenaline and love. Most people will argue that it's just a game, but it's really not.
So what was it like for you those last 5 or 6 years that Coach Knight broke the spirit and destroyed the psyche of all of his players at IU!? And there were all those terrible losses... especially the two years in a row the Hoosiers lost to Purdue at Assembly Hall by last second shots? Looks like the honeymoon is over in Lubbock and he's doing the same thing at Tech.

But... I miss the old days of Hoosier basketball too... :-?

I'll cry.. I'll pout... I get a little angry... I stay quiet for a bit, and after a day or two, I look foward to other sports and next year for the team that just lost. :)

And I STILL love my BRONCOS!! :D

Ditto. Don't get me wrong, I'm passionate about my teams (Knicks, Yankees, Giants, Rangers), but I'm not going to kill myself when they lose. Yeah, it sucked losing game 5 to the Angels this year, and getting your a$$ kicked 27-0 is no fun (and I won't even go into the Knicks  ), but you have to learn to move on.

We went to the 8/27 Philly concert and as we were going down the ramp after the concert, all the Philly fans were chanting, "E A G L E S --- Eagles!!" My keets wanted to counter with "G I A N T S --- Giants!!" and it was all we could do to keep them from doing it!! We realized we were in a 'foreign land' and wanted to get home safe and sound!!
smart thinking. I didn't even like the E-A-G-L-E-S chants that day, but you can't separate this town from the Eagles.

Mal, your husband was lucky that he was on the pre-game flight. People were amped for that game and there was a big contingent who went out for it.

as a FSU football fan, I used to get really upset when we would lose but now after the last five seasons I'm used to it.

The downward spiral first started a few years back when we lost to Louisville in overtime. Chris Rix drops backs and throws a pick on the first play and I slammed my remote into the wall, smashing it to smithereens.
Then I flipped out, screaming numerous cusswords as I paced throughout the house a few times.
I did not stop untill I noticed my then 2 year old son right behind me screaming "dod damm, dod damm, dod damm!"

Now I'm not so serious about it......not with FSU anyway
but as for those God D#mned Jaguars...................

This is a HUGE reason why I love tennis...It's just you out there, and you learn to lose. There's no one to fall back on, even in doubles. You can't blame the o-line for not protecting you. There's no way to hide if you're having an off day.

Being a Red Sox fan, I'm used to it... It still hurts when you get this far and can't follow through. That's what hurts the most... But I guess being a sox fan for 26 years has taught me the following:

1. There's always next year....
2. The team is cursed.. It's not that there are crappy players, it's a curse!
3. If all else fails, you can use it as an excuse to drink heavily and bash the rival team.....

This is what my dad taught me when I was a wee little tyke...

My team lost tonight....

went to the Bucks game against the Rockets.....close game through 3 quarters. Then they went almost 10 minutes in the 4th without scoring....it was embarrassing.

When my team(s) lose, I do two things-
1) B|tch about it for 10 minutes
2) Get over it

Bottom line-baseball/football/hockey/etc. is merely a GAME!
It's great when my team(s) win, it's NOT the end of the world when they lose.
I love my sports, but sports doesn't rule my life.

Didn't Jimmy break that curse two years ago? I don't know about anyone else but I would definitely credit him for breaking it as evidenced on the Fenway CD/DVD!!!

I hate to break it to you IUP, but we were getting beat on last second shots to Purdue long before Coach's last few years. That's why it used to be one of the best rivalries in college basketball with Duke/UNC being the only competition. Now, with Coach and Keady gone, the game doesn't mean a freaking thing. In addition, the honeymoon isn't nearly over. It's actually at it's peak. You must not remember last year's sweet sixteen run when they were three points from an elite 8 birth. Even Coach can't perform miracles every year. He's doing pretty well for not having one senior on the team and his best player being a sophomore. Unless you're Duke, success runs in cycles. With another year under his players belts, they'll be back contending for a Big 12 championship next year. Thanks for trying to bring me down though.
