The BBC reports that the US Navy has nabbed Somalian pirates in the Indian Ocean.

A 30-foot fishing boat firing on a Ticonderoga cruiser and an Arleigh Burke destroyer? Talk about bringing a spork to a gunfight....

What a bunch of stupid pirates! Firing upon a cruiser and a destroyer. One ship against two? Got to like those odds!

I think in their case it's a nothing left to lose. These Somali pirates have really stepped up things in the past year or so....amazing how many they've kidnapped and held for ransom as well as the goods plundered.

I heard it, some what differently. The pirates did not open up on the ships, but open fire when a small boat containing a boarding party of sailors approached them. The sailors saw the RPG(s?) and recieved fire and returned fire. I did not hear that the RPG (s?) were actually fired. I did see the confiscated weapons, and there was only one RPG shown.
Either way it went down .... they must have had a death wish.
The piracy has been ongoing for more years than people can count. stopping like this is not really putting an end to them...only to a few individuals here and there. I think they have stepped up their actions for various reasons. Also this is NOT the only section of "the sea" to have modern day pirates....but not much is heard is heard or very often from the other areas.
