I know I'm screwed if I'm behind anything driven by an old man in a hat. 'Course, then there was the putz this morning in front of me going 45 on the interestate, cig in one hand and cell phone in the other.

not necessarily. What I'm saying is that everything we did before we did it was safe then what would the adventure be in our lives? What would set us apart from each other? the chance for something to happen and subsequently how you deal with it is character building. I'm not saying that I will jump out of a plan without a parachute and see if I can survive, but rather I'd up and go on a roadtrip and "figure things out along the way". Who cares if its not all planned out? Who cares if everything isn't thought of? Not me. Theres the fun.... in living the experience.
I see your point, but I think I was much more able to enjoy my "adventure" driving through the woods on snowy roads knowing that I was prepared if anything went wrong.

I'm not completely without a sense of adventure. I've ridden in a DC3 to a spot in the jungle where there were no roads...but given a chance to prepare for emergencies....I usually do....It's just me nature...
Gollly.. that had to coooool :)

Yeah, it was....We were heading to a resort in Honduras that doesn't exist anymore (hurricane destroyed it some years back) They had no telephone (just a radio) and any planes flying after dark there were automatically considered to be drug runners and subject to being shot down.... It was a beautiful place....

Whoops! I think I just hijacked this thread....more appropriate in the Changes in Lattitude thread....

I was behind a jeep one morning a few weeks ago. That part was fine. It was the dead, bleeding, gross deer strapped to the rack on the back that was nasty. And I'm behind him, on a 2 lane road for over a mile. Blood dripping and leaving a trail. DEER HAVE A LOT OF BLOOD! :o

Worst thing to be behind is someone doing the speed limit or just a couple miles over.

for example----- Today on my way home from work down lovely Interstate 80--- People do not know how to drive-- I like to go about 75/80 when the limit is 65. People will intentionally go into your lane to cause you to have to brake and kill your gas mileage.

Stay in the lane oppisite to the one where people are flyin down---We do not want to have to brake and kill our cars.

i had this one happen to me recently. on a 2 lane mountain road with no one behind me, a driver decided to make a right turn even thou he had to see me coming. just about a 100 feet later, he made a right turn.

i dunno about other states, but in california you can make a right turn on a red light when traffic allows. well lately it seems there are more than a few clueless people who don't know their traffic rules. one even wrote a letter to the writer of the all things traffic column in the local paper. he could not understand why drivers behind him were honking, while he was waiting to make a right turn. turns out you don't have to make that right turn if you don't want to. i was behind one of those people today. my horn doesn't work, and he was avoiding looking into his rear view mirror.

I firmly believe there are wanna-be cops out there that get in the left lane and do the speed limit just so you have to. Sure they could get over, there's no one in the middle lane. But why? It's more fun to p*** us off. You would think the 25 cars passing them would give them a clue. Not a chance. I have no problem getting right up on their bumper and flashing my lights.

Even with improvements in materials and aerodynamics, 80 isn't a speed for optimal mpg.
