Can't think of one

Post by Capttony »

I'll be getting married towards the end of this year (2nd times a charm) and I was thinking that i would absolutely love to dance to a jimmy song with my mom during the mother-son dance. I can't think of a song for the life of me that would really fit though....

I'm guessing "Little Miss Magic" wouldn't work.

I read a portion of Ed Bradley's eulogy of Jimmy's Mom. In describing Jimmy's Mother, he referenced the song One Particular Harbour and quoted the following passage:

And there's One Particular Harbour
Sheltered from the wind
Where the children play on the shore each day
And all are safe within

I'm not sure if it's a good song to dance to at a wedding, but it sure sounds appropriate to me.
Buy the ticket, take the ride.

"Barefoot Children in the Rain"? :D

Or maybe branch out to Peter Mayer songs? "My Rainbow" could work (although it would probably work better for a dance with your bride....)

Lovely Cruise? (might be a little 'sad' for a wedding)

Treat her like a lady?

Great Heart?

*shrug*

That's kind of a tough one, Buffett's not the best suited for a moment like that....

Might be a bit of a stretch, but "Oysters and Pearls"?

This summer my wife and I first-danced to "Nautical Wheelers" and the mom and I danced to "I Have Found Me A Home." The latter worked better than "Wheelers" as my wife and I realized too late that neither of us knew how to waltz

My son and I danced to Tin Cup Chalice at his wedding.
Jimmy said it was Miss Peets' favorite when he played
it for her birthday party. It's not great for any classy
dance moves, but I'm not a classy dancer, so it worked
just fine.

But since your mom is not the parrothead, maybe you
should let her choose something herself. It'll mean a lot
to her for you to ask.

I danced with my Mom to a "Pirate Looks at 40". After it was over, the parents of one of my friends says to me, " When the groom dances with his mom to a Buffett song, you know it is going to be a fun night." And it was!

Barefoot Children In The Rain or Son of a Sailor if your mom has a sense of humor...

But a son of a son, son of a son
Son of a son of a sailor
Son of a gun, load the last ton
One step ahead of the jailer

I'm just a son of a son, son of a son
Son of a son of a sailor
The sea's in my veins, my tradition remains
I'm just glad I don't live in a trailer
I don't want to live on that kind of island
No, I don't want to swim in a roped off sea.
Too much for me, too much for me
I've got to be where the wind and the water are free.

Happily Ever After, Every Now and Then...

We used it for our bridal party dance, I think it would translate well to mother/son.
