My entire post was meant sarcastically, a joke... those would be the last 5 I want to hear at a show
...and I was supposed to know that, how?
By the way it looks like several people either didn't pay attention to the very first post in this thread or aren't quite the Parrotheads they think they are. To me, giving a stipulation like that adds to the challenge rather than being able to just rattle off 5 of your favorite Buffett songs. Of course several people will have their usual conniption fits and think I'm nitpicking but I thought the first post made it very clear that all songs had to be penned by Buffett. For whatever it's worth all of the following songs were not written by Buffett:
"If It All Falls Down" (Matt Betton)
"Mademoiselle Voulez-Vous Danser" (Lennie Gallant)
"All The Ways I Want You" (Bruce Cockburn)
"Window On The World" (John Hiatt)
"Savannah Fare You Well" (Hugh Prestwood)
"Banana Republics" (Steve Goodman)
"Anything, Anytime, Anywhere" (Bruce Cockburn)

Rules, rules...I know. Don't much care though - I like the song sung by JB...and since I'm not reading the song, it doesn't make any difference to me who wrote it.

Yeah, but it's much more fun and challenging if you have to limit your list to songs only Buffett wrote.

As an aside, the stipulation in this thread was that JB had to write the song (I considered that a co-write counted).
But I think there's a difference between a "cover" and a song that can be considered a "Jimmy Buffett" song, athough he was not the writer.
"Mexico" was first a James Taylor song. Clearly a cover. Same with "Southern Cross."
But I don't really consider "If It All Falls Down" and "Savannah Fare You Well" covers, for instance. No, Jimmy didn't write them, but they're known as JB songs. I may be wrong, but I don't think they were previously recorded by another artist.
Although "It's My Job" and "Blue Guitar" are well known as "Buffett" songs, I would technically call them covers, since the songs were previously recorded by Mac McAnally and Peter Mayer (and not sure if Roger Guth, who wrote Blue Guitar, recorded it before Peter Mayer, or not).
I guess my point is, I don't think that just because Jimmy didn't write it, that necessarily makes it a cover.

I've always felt, since Buffett is a songwriter, that a "Jimmy Buffett song" is one he wrote. Anything he didn't write (or co-write) is a cover. But then, I'm an anal retentive freak. Feel free to disagree. You'd be wrong, but disagree to your heart's content.

Good point but either way, the person that started the thread said: "They must have been written by JB himself." Personally, I think co-writes would be acceptable since Buffett at least took part in them but I didn't start the thread.
