I am a steak princess. When I was younger my dad only ever bought the absolute best cuts, then marinated it, grilled to perfection and cut all the fat off, then we ate it. When he died and I ordered a steak at a restaurant, I nearly cried. I've learned I can only ever get steak at the three places below. Anywhere else I get a burger.
In this order:
1. Ruths Chris
2. Flemings
3. Outback
Tried Morton's...service was good but Outback's got a better steak than I had there. Maybe I went on an off night.

Bambi was a male deer.
Usually the females are better meat.

Nah.

Chicago living sure is different then anywhere else in the world. HAHA. My bil works for the city out there on the road dept. Can you imagine how much politiician butt he has to kiss to keep that prime job.

Morton's, Ruths Chris, etc don't hold a candle to my husband's meat!
My husband never scrimps on a good cut of beef, always buys Prime. (It's true what they say about becoming friends with your butcher.) We usually get the extra fat cap if we're going to keep the prime rib whole. Sometimes we'll slice up a 14 lb roast into 7 - 10 "mini roasts" depending on how many people are over for dinner. They end up being 2 - 3 1/2 inches thick. After letting the steaks rest he puts them in the smoker for a couple hours then onto the most amazingly hot fire (CHARCOAL ONLY) you can imagine. Burns the arm hairs. GBD! Golden Brown & Delicious!
Never had a better steak in a restaurant. A close second was a pan seared rib eye Austin's at Texas Station in North Vegas. They make a gravy, actually it's more of a reduction sauce, out of the juices in the pan.

Nearly 6,200 people have succeeded in eating the 72oz. steak (since 1960).
Almost 37,000 people have attempted to consume the free 72oz. steak (since 1960).
Approximately two women each year successfully eat the steak of the 4 or 5 who try. About 50% of the women who try are successful.
Richard LaFeare chomped his way through 2 steaks on the "Donny & Marie Osmond Show" in 2000.
Frank Pastore, a professional pitcher for the Cincinnati Reds, ate the complete steak dinner in a record that still stands today of just 9½ minutes back in May of 1987. This was Frank's 7th and fastest time to complete the steak contest in 11 years of running to spring training in Florida.
The oldest person to eat the steak was a 69-year-old grandmother; the youngest, an 11-year old boy.
Klondike Bill, a professional wrestler, consumed two complete dinners in the one hour time limit back in the 1960s.
So how much is the steak if you CAN'T eat it in an hour?

I know a guy who weights close to 330 pounds. A couple years ago he was going to San Antonnio to visit some family members, and told me he intended to stop at that place on the way. I told him he'd better be careful. He said to me not to worry because no matter how much he eats, he never gains a pound.

Been to several Ruth's Chris and Morton's and never had a bad meal but overall I agree they're probably overrated.
Best cut of beef I ever had was definitely Shula's in Tampa
menu is on a football you toss around the table and the place is a shrine to the '72 Fins. The food was incredible and the service was impeccable

Anyone else ever been to Dickie Brennan's Steakhouse in New Orleans? Best steak I've ever had. They're reopening in April, i may have to go back.
I don't care for Ruth's Chris (also started in New Orleans), but I will certainly got to The Palm or Morton's.

I don't think even
I could handle that.

If you order the DVD for
Growing A Beard, an excellent documentary about Shamrock, TX where they have a contest every year to see who can grow the best looking Donegal beard between New Year's Day and St. Patrick's Day, it also includes a featurette on this steakhouse called
The 72 Oz. Steak. Soundtrack to the main feature provided by Austin's The Gourds. Great movie, great soundtrack.

Been to Flemings, Ruth's Chris, Mortons and The Capital Grille but, IMHO, none of them was as good as
Peter Lugars.

Gonna try Abe & Louie's on Sunday (
before the B.B. King concert) so I'll be able to compare that one as well.

I live right near the Abe and Louie's on Boylston Street so I frequent it a lot. If you get a salad try the Abe and Louie's salad (lettuce, apples, pistachio nuts, blue cheese, and Dijon vinaigrette) it is so good, also can't go wrong with the NY Sirloin.

What street is Peter Luger's on? I'll be in NY for business and I need to try this place. I was at the Capital Grille on 42nd street last week and got a so so piece of meat.

The one I know is out on the Island, in Great Neck ... I think they have one in Brooklyn too. As far as I know there is not one in Manhattan.

Brooklyn isn't too far. If you guys are telling me it's worth it, then I'll make the drive out there.
