I don't care for Ruth's Chris (also started in New Orleans), but I will certainly got to The Palm or Morton's.
I agree with Brennan's also had a great steak at Emril's in NO.
In Chicago Gibson's, just need to find Cubbie to front the tab...
Smith and Wolenski's (sp) and also Gene and Georgetti's (sp) are a pretty close second.
Morton's for prime is still on top.
Keep Ruth Chris, when I'm there I order Tuna.....

72oz. Steak Facts and Stats
Nearly 6,200 people have succeeded in eating the 72oz. steak (since 1960).
Almost 37,000 people have attempted to consume the free 72oz. steak (since 1960).
Approximately two women each year successfully eat the steak of the 4 or 5 who try. About 50% of the women who try are successful.
So how much is the steak if you CAN'T eat it in an hour?

I think it is $72. . you need to finish the entire steak, sides and bread. . in an hour. .
If you can finish this. .
You get the meal free - and your picture in a giant chair.

At the bar, they have a list of people that have managed to do this. . it has their name, age, where they are from, some comments. . and their weight.
If you decide to try. . you are right up there on stage. . for everyone to watch. (my picture didn't come out. . I think I was too nauseated to hold the camera still!)
But if you are in Amarillo. . .well, it's something to see!

Is the Peter Luger's out on the island still around? The original is in Williamsburg (Bklyn), and you will need reservations pretty far in advance. Well worth the trip and the wait.

I was just on Peter Lugers website and found it strange they only accept cash.

I was surprised too, but the only time I went there I wasn't paying so I didn't care.

Yes, that's true ... they have their own "card". When I saw your comment about trying it, I was just going to warn you to about that.

They have their own card

. I don't think I want to pay 20% interest on a $50 steak. I'll hit the ATM before I go. Anybody ever order from the butcher shop?

If you ever get a chance to watch the short film I mentioned you'll see that the person featured...well, I don't wanna give it away. Let's just say it's not nearly as easy as it looks.

I've never ordered from them, but I've eaten there several times.
Don't forget the strudel mit schlag afterwards, if you still have room.
This is not a place for those with cholesterol issues, but then what steakhouse is?

Le Tub (while not a steak place) is pretty explicit in their "cash, no credit cards" rule. There are places that like that prefer the cash flow. Of course, that also makes it a little easier to dodge a few things if you are the owner...

Willie Nelson's Texas Roadhouse is fine by me...for the money anyway.
If I wanna get "pinky up" I go to this place called the Tree Steakhouse where you have to get a loan to get a steak

I wholeheartedly second that one
I prefer Bambi on my outdoor grill..
Steak houses??
There was/is a place in Minden NV. a Casino , prime rib??
the best.. 18 OZ. and any way you want..
called Sharkys, old man Sharky sold the place
and I heard there was a 6 page rider on the sales contract that just covered the prime rib and cost and fat content and size and............
sail on Sharky.
How about is it Teds Montana? buffalo steaks. They make the best Onion Rings. and the steak is wonderful.
Ted's Montana Grill, and they can forget ever getting a dime from me again.
When Candy was here for the Cinci concert, she flew in on Saturday. We tried going to Ted's downtown in the Arena District (it's on the way home). They were open, but there was no place to park because the Cirque d' Soleil was set up in the Arena parking lot, thus all the streets were taken (and being cheap, I did not feel like paying $5 bucks to park my car for "event parking" that I was not attending. Strike 1/2.
Monday night, after getting out of the shop, we got to the same restaurant. Sign says, Open x-y:30. We are there at y. Doors are locked a half hour early, and they are closing down completely. Full strike issued here.
Tuesday afternoon, we are heading for the airport, have 2 hours to go before she has to be there, figure "plenty of time to stop at Ted's". Yes, they are open, yes there is parking. So far, so good.
"Where do you want to sit? Inside or outside?"
nice day outside, some breeze, "Outside please?" and off we go.
Sitting there, I have a cigar with me; I have a very attractive, sweet, and intelligent redhead with me; and I have a cold beer on the table. I fire up the cigar. (Keep in mind that Columbus has an indoor smoking ban, but smoking is legal outside). 10 minutes into the cigar, the conversation, the beer, the waitress comes out and says I have to put out the cigar, that "they don't allow smoking". I explain that a) it's legal outdoors; and b) since we are the only two people on the patio, unless Candy is complaining, there should be no issue here. "we don't allow smoking. You have to put it out."
The food had been ordered. There was a check to be cashed. There was not enough time to stop somewhere else on the way to the airport other than a fast food joint and that seemed to lack style. I put out the cigar, we ate lunch, and the waitress received a 5% tip, and I made the promise that I will starve before I eat at Ted's and its fake Out West image ever again.
WOW sorry to hear that I have only been to the Denver one (twice)
and had great food and service both times..
I do agree that the Fake West decor is a bit much..

Ted's Montana Grille was a disapointment for me.
Well, at least the buffalo.
Ive heard people rave about buffalo and I've tried it twice now and still don't see the big deal. Although it is kinda cool to say you ate buffalo I guess

Gonna try Abe & Louie's on Sunday (
before the B.B. King concert) so I'll be able to compare that one as well.
I live right near the Abe and Louie's on Boylston Street so I frequent it a lot. If you get a salad try the Abe and Louie's salad (lettuce, apples, pistachio nuts, blue cheese, and Dijon vinaigrette) it is so good, also can't go wrong with the NY Sirloin.
Just an update ...
I took your advice on the salad - it was delicious!

I was gonna go with the sirloin, too ... but, right before we ordered one delivered to the table right next to us - and I saw how large it was!

Since I didn't want to deal with a doggie bag at Symphony Hall, I opted for the bone-in Filet Mignon (
something I don't think I have ever seen anywhere else) and it was
wonderful.

Hubby did get the sirloin (
and had no problem avoiding the doggie-bag dilemma
) so I managed to snag a taste anyway

... amazingly tender.
I have to say, IMHO, Abe & Louie's beats any of the other Boston steakhouses, hands down.

the 16oz sirlion is a lot of meat. Glad you liked the salad. I'm not a big salad guy but I love theirs.
