Love is in the air!
My brother (a phellow ParrotHead) just got engaged, and I'm going to be a bridesmaid!!!!!! I'm soooo excited!
Now for all of you ladies who have been bridesmaids or brides yourselves, what are my responsibilities? What do the bridesmaids take care of?

Actually, I started thinking about it and my bridesmaids really did a lot for me. We had a non church wedding (party bash in a catering hall). We were married in a short ceremony, and the rest was dancing and eating.SweetMelissa wrote:Now for all of you ladies who have been bridesmaids or brides yourselves, what are my responsibilities? My wedding favors were bags of homemade cookies for each guest (surprise surprise), so they came over and we made a day of baking and bagging all the cookies. They helped me pick my gown, and helped me design all the accessories for them and me (I made my veil, my jewelry, their jewelry, and all of the bouquets and boutinnieres (sp?). They helped my mom and mother in law coordinate and throw me a shower, and helped out with coordinating the catering and checking up on everything. I paid for their gowns and shoes, but I'm not sure if that is tradition or not.
I think it all depends on what kind of wedding they're going to have as to what you need to do.

For all the weddings I've been in I think the best gift I've given the bride and groom is peace of mind on their wedding day. I am great at running interference with caterers, photographers, out of control guests etc. I have set up and decorated reception halls and stayed to clean up as well. I just have always tried to make sure that the happy couple didn't have to stress about anything, and for every friend I have done this for they and their families all have said that it was the best gift they received. I have found that even though a bride may have assigned specific duties to people, MANY of them tend to flake out, so just be willing to do whatever needs to be done. It won't go unnoticed or unappreciated.
Typically you also throw a shower with the other bridesmaids, work on favors and all that good stuff.
In this age of digital photograpy, one really cool thing that we've done at recent weddings is to bring a digital camera and portable photo printer. Someone is responsible for taking as many candid shots at the wedding and reception, then they find a corner or room to print the pics and put them in a memory album right then and there, and give the album to the couple before they leave the reception. For most couples the day is a blur, this gives them a chance to review the day together and enjoy the pics on their own time, without having to wait for the professional shots or for the other candid photos folks may have taken. It has gone over really well. It doesn't need to be a bridesmaid job, but something all the bridesmaids could work on together or come up with a couple of folks who are willing to take on the responsibility.

Some are better than others, but rarely are they anything you would CHOOSE to wear.
