Good for you and congrats!! I think so much of this will depend on where you live, what part of the country you might be interested in seeing, where your friends are going, what you can afford, and what you're looking for in a great Buffett experience. To me, it's all what you make of it and any venue can work because Jimmy's there.

Flying is certainly an option, but you might be able to afford two shows if you can do quick road trips vs. flying to one...it all depends on what you want to do. To me, Vegas is Vegas; if that's your gig, great, otherwise I'd go elsewhere to a more typical venue. On BN people will tend to get most passionate about the tailgating traditions at Alpine, Great Woods and Irvine, but there are plenty of great venues around.

Whatever you decide, let folks know ("Who's Going To" threads) so you can hook up with some great BNers...wherever you may be. Have fun!

I think you may enjoy Vegas the most. There is so much Buffett related stuff going on from Margaritaville, to the street parties, to the MGM pool party.

Only thing, you may have to wait until October for a VEGAS show this year. If I were you, I'd go to Tampa if you can get tickets. That makes a nice Florida vacation and that outdoor venue sounds good. I'd never go to the Thunder Dome in Tampa, or whatever it is called, unless you get great tickets down low. The parties across the street are great though.

Of course, I don't know where you live, so that may influence your choices.

I've always wanted to go to Jones Beach.

Oh, and congrats on graduation and a new job.

The Coral Sky/Mars Music/Sound Advice Amplitheatre was great . Hopefully the rumor of a return are true. Going back a few years, the Sunrise Musical Theatre was an awesome place. It was small, but great sound and not a bad seat in the house. Yoy have to go back to the Chameleon Caravan tour for the last show there. It still stands today, but the religious people bought it a few years ago.

Irvine Meadows definitely rocked!
Anaheim Pond just has not been a worthy replacement... :-?

Granted I wasn't there when it was recorded, but I've been there since.
The venue in Biscayne Bay where Live By The Bay was filmed is pretty tough to beat...

First of all take into account many folks have not seen Jimmy play in more than 1 or 2 places. Ignore the local bias (everyone thinks where they are at is the best)....the best place to see him...is as someone said...where u have a ticket.

But the best place I ever saw him was Buckeye Lake where he doesnt play anymore.

Thanks for the link. :)
IMO JB should buy the venue, renovate it, and use it as his home turf to play for fun after he retires...

Of course, I hope you got a good job because the tickets are twice as expensive as anywhere else. Think of Vegas as a bunch of professional Buffett fans flying in for a convention. It's incredible.

The best concert location is in Hawaii at the Shell. It's an outdoor venue with Diamond Head in the background. If only I could get the vegas crowd to fly to Hawaii with me....
Hey We were there!!!
You almost got it right......
Vegas is the Parrothead Pro destination..... We call it a 90+% crowd (90+% of the crowd is totally decked out and insane....)

Where you went astray is you went to the wrong Hawaii venue......Maui is the ticket....!!!!! Like having Jimmy come play in your backyard!!! You and 3,999 of your closest friends...! Moonlight, tradewinds and margaritas flowing

In reality.....where ever you can get tickets is the best place..... :D

I have not been to as many shows as a lot of ya'll
but my vote for best is West Palm, great party and I love the lawn.
Oh and it's not too far from the keys and requires a mandatory trip there after the show. I've been there twice and first saw Jimmy there in 99.

After that I like Nissan. I've been there only once.
Great sound there and it was also hot. As I was standing on the lawn that night I almost forgot that I was way up north in Virginia.

Believe it or not Orlando has a pretty good parking lot party. I've been there three times. Plus Margaritville the night before just could get you an up close show from the man himself like in 03.

The indoor arena in Tampa gets my votes for worst that I've been too, including the parking lot. Jim Morris at Newks made it a little better.

No love for Pittsburgh??

Despite my hometown bias, Star Lake/Post Gazette Pavilion is a fantastic place to see a show. Scenic rural location, big sprawling parking lot with awesome tailgating, and great lawn inside the venue.

Let's hope PNC Park was a one-time event and Jimmy comes back home to Star Lake this year!

After 100+ shows, from Maui to Great Woods, here are my favs....

Irvine Cal.

The Holy Grail of West Coast shows. Great venue, usually great weather, Jimmy loves it. Parking lot party off the charts, cool cops.....1 pm parking entry (yea they say 3 pm, never happens). Only downer, they charge $200 for an oversize rig in the lot (40 feet +).

Great Woods, Boston

The Holy Grail of East Coast venues. Yea Fenway was cool, but get back to GW (Tweeter Center for novices). Awesome parking lot party, great fans. So good, I am having my tour bus driven out for the show if Jimmy plays here this year.

San Diego/Coors Amphitheatre

My hometown venue is an up and comer. First...hey look where we live! Party starts the night before on boats at the Marriott Marina in downtown San Diego...then out to Coors. Great newer venue, early entry, great cops, tailgating is becoming one of the biggest anywhere. Room for my bus in the lot and we can hog six spaces.

Worst venue:

Ft. Lauderdale

Indoors in Florida?? No entry in the lot until 5 pm, and no porta potties. You have to be kidding! Great fans though, and there is a Hard Rock across the way in a shopping mall.

The Classic Amphiteater at Strawberry Hill in Richmond Va was nice until Nissan opened up.

Did not care for Merriweather Post in Maryland
