Jimmy at Red Rocks would be, well, just shy of a religious experience. I grew up just a few minutes from RR and spent so much time there growing up, it's totally my stompin' grounds.

Welcome to BN!

Uhhh...it would kinda be blasphemy to not say Jones Beach, soooo. IN MY VERY HUMBLE OPINION, Jimmy is the only performer I know of where the State Parks Service (which runs Jones Beach) allows alcohol in the parking lot. I have not had a bad experience there. Plus it is right on Zach's Bay and you can listen in your boat, though I don't think they let you get that close to the stage, and it is right across the street from the ocean. Jones Beach is also one of the smallest venues he plays: about 15000 and no lawn, and every seat is great to the point that I believe that any seat in the amphitheater is better than the mezzanine seats I had in Philly last year, IMO.

Now this is biased as I have not been to Great Woods or Alpine or Cincy, or any of the "Big Six," that claim to be the best, but from the few venues I've seen Jimmy perform, Jones Beach is top of the heap. Hopefully, I can get to some more venues before he decides to hang it up. :)

I second this... I've been to almost 20 shows and Jones Beach was by far my favorite venue!! :D :D and the tailgating wasn't too bad either, nothing like tailgating in the hot sun all day and then jumping in the ocean to cool off... :D

I would say that the best venue that you are likely to see Jimmy at now is going to be one of the shows at a Margaritaville Cafe or Lulu's. The problem is knowing when he is going to show up and play there.

As for the big shows, well, I think it depends on what your expectations are and what you like. If Tailgating is your thing, then you will find that Alpine (if Jimmy ever plays there again) is pretty amazing and Irvine was great too. If you are looking for a weekend of fun insanity, then it's the Vegas show. There isn't anything else like it. For the best setting, Jones Beach is tough to beat since it is possible to play in the water, which you can't do in Honolulu. Third place would be the Gorge but I don't know that Jimmy will play there again.

However I think the biggest deciding factor is where is he playing in relationship to where you are and can you get tickets. Go to whatever venue he is playing and you will have fun.

Alpine Valley is the best that I have been to. That does not mean that I can change my mind. ( If I had one) In 1 week I will be losing my job :( But that just gives me more time to plan my Jimmy drives. I'm thinking Cincy. Iv'e never been there and from what phans are saying, why not.

Irvine Cal.

The Holy Grail of West Coast shows. Great venue, usually great weather, Jimmy loves it. Parking lot party off the charts, cool cops.....1 pm parking entry (yea they say 3 pm, never happens). Only downer, they charge $200 for an oversize rig in the lot (40 feet +).

Great Woods, Boston

The Holy Grail of East Coast venues. Yea Fenway was cool, but get back to GW (Tweeter Center for novices). Awesome parking lot party, great fans. So good, I am having my tour bus driven out for the show if Jimmy plays here this year.

San Diego/Coors Amphitheatre

My hometown venue is an up and comer. First...hey look where we live! Party starts the night before on boats at the Marriott Marina in downtown San Diego...then out to Coors. Great newer venue, early entry, great cops, tailgating is becoming one of the biggest anywhere. Room for my bus in the lot and we can hog six spaces.

Worst venue:

Ft. Lauderdale

Indoors in Florida?? No entry in the lot until 5 pm, and no porta potties. You have to be kidding! Great fans though, and there is a Hard Rock across the way in a shopping mall.
Well stated, I've been to all that you have listed, and I put Irvine at the top of the list. San Diego's Coors Amphitheatre is an up and comer, and if time allows, it has the potential to be the best Venue. Till then, Irvine is the tops.

Great Woods, Jones Beach, Alpine Valley, all good, but they are not Irvine.

Being from the Philly area. Did anyone like the concert at Citizen Bank last year, compared to the Tweeter in Camden, NJ. for other tours?

Best tailgate - Nissan

Best indoor venue - Portland Rose Arena (for an arena) Armadillo World Headquarters, Austin TX (best indoor venue ever)

Worst Atmosphere - Miami AAC

Uhhhh, negative there... No offense because I had fun with my friends but Philly just didn't do it for me... probably didn't help that I got body slammed into the concrete in the seats in front of me... :x
