What's odd is that there is no Ikea here - something that would do amazingly well. I guess they haven't figured out how to make it work. They'd need a huge warehouse, and even then it'd be a headache.
But there's Ikea in the suburbs, right? There has to be!
there's 2, but no one in NYC has a car. There's one on Long Island and another in Jersey. The other thing is, that their stuff, even though it's not assembled, is heavy because it's all glued flakeboard and partical board so even if you got there by bus or whatever you're not going to lug a big box with a shelf or nightstand around the city.
Yeah, I know what it's like to transport Ikea stuff to/from the suburbs.
But, I do have my own car and no matter the trouble, Ikea is so awesome that it's worth it!!!
They do deliver, but I was less than impressed when I called them last week. They also charge an exorbetant (sp?) fee to do so. Nothing I'm going to do, and unless I'm furnishing a whole apartment, it's not worth it. I think some of those swedish meatballs have gone to their heads.

I just had a meeting with the Account Director and was struggling to keep my eyes open. These eyelids are heavy. What do they put in them?
