Not necessarily in that order
Dude that stuff will kill ya. Friends don't let friends drink Cuervo.
Now just put down the bottle and no one will get hurt. And don't you dare say the word Patron, it will kill ya too.
Looks like I'm gonna have to update my top 5 list soon, but in the mean time, grab a bottle of Don Julio anejo, it's a good place to start.
Tequila is something you sip, not shoot.
and if you can find it: Milagro Anejo.
On some things we can agree R2

Yes, the regular brand line of Milagro Anejo is another great jumping off place to experience fine tequila. Now don't confuse it with the much better, expensive high end Milagro Reserva Anejo in the hand blown bottle. Now this stuff is still up there at the top of my list.
I have only seen the Reposado handblow bottles, and the "Romance" bottles. And at $36 or so for a 750 ml, yes, the regular Milagro Anejo is a good place to start.
I need to find a bottle of Reserva del Dueno, and Tonala as well. Probably would be better to find a place with it in their collection to "taste test it" first tho.
There are a few places on the El Camino in Mt. View and Palo Alto that have the Reserva Del Dueno. The Milagro Anejo in the handblown bottle is still at the top of my list for best Tequila. The Tonala Anejo is available in both the square ceramic bottle and the Tonala Barrell select Reserva in a handblown bottle with a blue and gold label. The reserva is outstanding. If you are going to the Mt. View Show, I know how much you love Shoreline

let me know, I can pick some up for you.
all this for something I am going to add sweet and sour, ice, tripple sec
and salt to.

On The Edge wrote:Earlier it had been reported and I agreed that the 1800 tequila label no longer had the Cuervo name on it, and that it is no longer produced by Jose Cuervo. The original poster and I am wrong, and upon further investigation I uncovered the truth.
First, 1800 is still produced and bottled by Jose Cuervo distillery. Although it no longer bears the Jose Cuervo name on the label, the NOM remains the same 1122. All tequila distilleries are asigned a NOM number by the Mexican government as a means of licensing the distillery and aproving of their methods of production. Jose Cuervo's NOM is 1122. All 1800 products still use the NOM 1122 number, therefore, they are indeed still produced by Jose Cuervo.
The truth of the matter is that although Jose Cuervo Co. still sells more tequila/tequila blends than any other Tequila distillery, their name recognition is among the lower end, bargain tequila's. The company's failure to enter the High End Prestigious lines of tequila has left them out of that portion of the market. Their La Familia line, Cuervo Especial line, and 1800 line were miserable flops in the high end market. The company was no longer able to market the 1800 line in the Mid range market like Patron. They felt that the Cuervo name was actually costing them market share in the Mid to High range Tequila market, and felt that a bottle and label facelift would help them regain market share. The results have yet to be seen, but for now, the Jose Cuervo name has been dropped from their entire 1800 line. (This information came from a marketing report from the Wine and Spirits industry magazine)
Tequila is a passion for me, and I just wanted to set the record straight.
All this for something I am going to add Orange Juice, ice and grenadine to..
to..

Don't you dare, these tequilas are for sipping. This is not the cr@p you have to hide between layers of crushed ice, an overpowering combination of sweet and sour fruit juices, some good orange liquor, and a hint of salt
Most tequilas that are made only for the purpose of a margarita are pure Cr@pola. Now don't get me wrong, there are some great tequilas out there that are made only for margaritas, on their own they are not great drinking tequilas, but I'll put a true premium brand margarita up against any of the Cr@p brand margaritas any day. Call me a snob, but you are what you drink.

I have heard this story, and I am not going to fill in the blanks for the folks. You can do that.

Hmmmm.... Jose Cuervo's not bad in margaritas.... and I
like Patron, so maybe I'm missing something....
(Not that we have a lot of choices up here in the far reaches of the northeast.....)
I'm glad you posted this cuz I was thinking the same thing, both on location and taste. We had Patron Silver for the first time recently and thought it made our margaritas much smoother.
Although I'm sure there are other tequila's out there that are better for sipping chilled, etc. I'm curious to see the top 20 and recommendations for enjoyment of them!

I remember eating at Yolanda's, in Camarillo, CA, when I ordered a margarita and the bartender asked me what tequila I wanted. He got a blank stare.... You mean there's a choice?

If you search your couch cushions, car seats, ashtray, glove box and come up with another $6.00 in change, I would say El Tesoro Anejo (Serve Ice Cold) or Milagro Anejo (room temp in a brandy snifter)
You can get both for under $36.00

Sauza's Conmemorativo Anejo and Sauza Hornitos Reposado are also recommended on some of the tequila webboards.

EEEWWWWWWWW Ok do yourself a favor, now that Patron is bottled in Vegas, the quality has gone way way down over the years. The Silver Patron is not horrible, but as far as the Reposado or Anejo, you would actually be better off with a Sauza Conmemorativo, Sauza Tres Generations, or Hornitos. I really don't consider these to be that good, but they are better than Patron.
Don't get me wrong, Patron use to be better, but it's quality has dropped dramatically, and it never never was a high end tequila. They like to price it like it is, but it is not.
