I believe that several times in ALL THOSE YEARS you finished second we may have beaten you as well.
You know...once or twice.
No shame in finishing third and out of the playoffs though.
Well, maybe a little.
But seriously, as much as we hate each other, I think we can agree that it isn't the same without both teams in it. There really is nothing like it if you are a fan of either team.
I'll be rooting hard against you, but get back there next year!!

poor base running or a poor decision by the 3rd base coach....and how does a guy on 2nd base get thrown out on a ball hit to the wall....he was no where near catching that ball!!
Drew should have actually scored. I was at the game (No I don't hate the Mets either, and the crowd was electric) and Drew actually sorta hesitated halfway down the 3rd base line. Had he kept running, he would have scored. That would have been fun to mark down in the scorebook.
That being said, it really looks like the Yankees and Mets are going to slug their way to the World Series. There are many 7-5 and 9-8 ballgames in their future.

That happened to the Yankees once. I forget who the first runner was but the second guy was Yogi Berra's son Dale.
Good memory you've got there. From retrosheet.org, 8.2.1985...
YANKEES 7TH: NICHOLS STAYED IN GAME (PLAYING LF); Robertson
singled; MEACHAM RAN FOR ROBERTSON; Berra reached on an error by
Hulett [Meacham to second, Berra to first]; Henderson singled
[Meacham out at home (center to shortstop to catcher), Berra out
at home (catcher)]; Fisk tagged both runners out at the
plate; Mattingly made an out to center; 0 R, 2 H, 1 E, 1
LOB. White Sox 3, Yankees 3.

I didn't see the Mets/Dodgers game yesterday, except for the 9th inning at some bar, but I understand I missed quite a game.
Too bad the Yankees/Tigers game was rained out. As best as I can recall, this is the first time there's ever been two playoff games in New York on the same day.
That's an accomplisment our friends in Chicago may NEVER be able to claim.
