A-Rod can strike out all he friggin' wants to-if the game stays in the hands of the starting pitchers or Mariano Riviera, they'll have a chance.
But as soon as the middle relievers (namely Meyers and Farnsworth) come in, it's over. The rest of the bullpen (other than Riviera) is nothing to write home about either, but those two clowns are the WORST.
HELL, the CUBS didn't want Farnsworth-what does THAT tell you?
That's true but A-Rod striking out with the bases loaded doesn't do well for his image that he chokes in clutch situations. I think the only reason why he chokes during that situation is that he is trying too hard to prove that he doesn't so it is sort of that self-fulfilling prophecies.
I think you're EXACTLY right. (From a Yankee fan).
Before I get slammed for saying this because I am a Red Sox fan, all I am saying is that if Sports Illustrated (and I think the New York media) has noticed this then there may be something about it.
Everybody's noticed it. I think the REAL Yankee fans do want him to do well, but are getting pretty damn frustrated. All those home runs and big power numbers are nice, but it doesn't do much good to hit a home run when your team is 20 runs ahead or 20 runs behind.
I guess we'll see by the end of the weekend.
Exactly. I remember reading somewhere (don't know where or if the author was saying this sarcastically) that whenever A-Rod leaves a team, the next year or two that team will do better than with him. Look at what happened to Seattle and Texas when he left those teams. Those teams did better when he left (at that time --- now it doesn't matter).

curse of the Division leader 5 of the last 6 years..
Past history the last few years i believe...the wild card has gone to the WS!!!
I believe the Sox last year were the only exception to the trend.
YOUR RIGHT ....I was thinking they were a wild card team last year!!
The White Sox won their division in 2005. The Astros, whom they played in the W.S., were the wild card team from the N.L.
There has been a wild card team in the W.S. five of the last six years:
Mets-'00
Angels & Giants-'02
Marlins-'03
Red Sox-'04
Astros-'05
________-06?

I guess the Yankees are never going to get a break.
And Morgan and Miller are unbearable. Quite possibly the two most overbearing yet boring announcers in any sport. When they do a broadcasts, it becomes about them not the game itself.

Morgan and Miller could give Tim McCarver a run for his money.
And yes, the Yankees are looking like the G.D.
CUBS in this series.
It's definately time to break up this "team."

But I could listen to Ernie Harwell say "Giambi stood there like the house by the side of the road, and watched that go by"
all day long!

Isn't that the problem with the vast majority of announcers?

And that's why I love sports....if Kenny Rogers is sitting on the barstool next to me, I don't give that SOB the time of day. Put an Olde English D on his chest and put him on the bump vs. the Yankees, I'm screaming his name at the tv!
Go get 'em Tigers!

It's like the Yankees were batting against
SANDY F'ING KOUFAX!
(For you younger bandwagon Yankee haters-Sandy Koufax pitched for the Dodgers in the 1950's and 1960's was one of the greatest pitchers, if not THE greatest pitcher in the game, and the youngest man to ever be elected to the hall of fame).
I'm not making this up-he was a great pitcher. Ask your parents or grandparents.

I've watched him all season (Rogers) and I've never seen
that curve ball. Until you were looking for it, then came the fastball.
And Koufax retired at
30! Wow, what could have been....

DAMN RIGHT, what could've been.
1963. 25 wins, 311 innings pitched, 1.88 E.R.A., 381 Strikeouts.
Game 1 of the World Series against the Yankees that year-he struck out 15.
The guy was a SUB-human.
AND HE ALWAYS THREW A COMPLETE GAME- He wasn't no candy-a$$ 5-inning pitcher like the majority of today's starters.

pitch counts

DRIVE ME CRAZY!
Nolan Ryan is said to have thrown 259 pitches in a 12-inning game in 1974.

Get a break!

How about the 3B/LF umpire calling the ball foul when it clearly hit the line. That was an easy double for the Tigers.
The Yankees have had plenty of breaks in the playoffs of the years.

Now this is a funny picture
