When I was single, in my late 20s, a friend of mine had a LOVE STINKS party on Valentine's Day, and all her single friends -- guys and gals -- were invited. It was a blast. Don't think it was related, but she and I were both married by the next year...
I asked my hubby out for our first Valentine's Day. (The other guy I was dating ended up having to work, so he had to cancel out on our plans.) It took our "friendship" to the next level, AND it put me in charge of all Valentine's Day plans for the rest of my life.
My job is to think of something to surprise him and take him to a restaurant he's never been to. I always succeed. Once, I had the maitre D' (sp) have the table already set with a card from me and a rose in a vase when he seated us. And bring out a personalized ice cream cake after the meal was over.
Valentine's Day takes a little effort to make it special, just like Christmas. You could say, why does everybody have to give gifts to everyone they know on a particular day in December? And people would call you a Scrooge. I say, go with the flow and make V-Day fun in whatever way you want!

Nicely put there Carolinagirl.
One time I packed an overnight bag and took Parrotdawg to the Hampton Inn that was right in our town. I went and checked in early and set the rooms with candles, wine and strawberries all by the spa that was in the room. Never told him where we were going for the night. Talk about a surprise.

Glad you liked it... You deserve it!
As do all the BNers on here...
Don't mean to hijack, Christina... Hope you can find something to celebrate... I remember plenty of crummy V-days that went on for years!

GOOD Chocolate is a good reason to like Valentine's Day!
For the chocolate loving drinkers out there.......there are drinkers among us, right?
Try this drink... Layer Creme de Cacao, Kahula, and Baileys (about a shot each in that order) in a small glass ......you layer them by pouring it down the side of the glass. The drink will be three shades of brown..pretty with good taste and nice kick. I was told it was called a Chocolate Hurricane. Don't know who named it but I like em.
Oh if you mess up on that layering, thats okay still tastes good!!!

I love to buy flowers and other small thoughtful gifts all year round and will always let my girl know she is the most important thing in my world.
However...
I get beaten up a little because every year at the office on Feb 15 she gets asked what I did for her on Valentines Day and the real answer is nothing special.
get her tulips or lillies...every girl gets rosesbut tulips and lillies are unique and special.....write her a poem...give her a massage....cook all of her favorite foods.....start a scapbook for her with pics of you guys...
Those are my two favorite flowers!!!! Nice pick!
BTW Christina i'm not that big of a fan of Vday either I think a card is more than enough on that day, no need for anything frilly. It really doesn't make much sense to me, I'd rather be surprised with flowers or a night out some other time when you are least expecting it, than to be expecting it on a certain day of the year.

White tulips are one of my favorites!!!! Roses are nice but I'd rather have wild flowers...

Roses are nice but overpriced. You can get so much more for half the price of what roses cost.

For years I've been buying flowers and taking the ball and chain out to dinner. This year I'm gonna cook her a really nice breakfast in bed.
Last time I did that, she love me long time
And speaking of flowers.....
What's better than roses on your piano?
Tulips on your organ!!!!!!!!!
BA DOOM BAP!!!!
Thank you parrotheads and don't forget to stiff your waitress on your way out
