Staph infections are BAD news, they can easily turn into something worse. A lot of our dialysis patients had to get treated for staph infections.
Y'all will be in my thoughts and prayers.....hopefully it's not bad, and he has a quick recovery.

12 years ago next month, we brought our first Keet home from the hospital. After showing the baby off at a couple of places, we went home and I started to prepare a very nice dinner for Norma, with wine and the whole deal.
My wife has never spent a day cold in her life. It could be 20 below and she will have shorts on. While I ws cooking, I noticed she was in the living room wrapped in blankets. During dinner she started shivering and I took her temp. It was about 102. She also said her leg ached. She started shivering so hard she could not hold a glass of wine without spilling and hold a fork without dropping it. I took her temp again and it was almost 105.
Since I had just changed jobs, the pregnancy coverage was "state assisted" and we had the baby in Iowa City, about 90 miles away. I called Dr Mattingly our primary physician and told her what was going on. By now she was over 105 and had a dime size red mark on her leg. Her leg felt like it was on fire. Dr Mattingly said "don't do anything stupid, but get her here right away". I didn't do anything stupid, but I made the 90 mile drive in about 55 minutes
We got to the ER and it is all kind of a blurr. There was a major accident and peeps were getting airlifted in. Norma was getting delirious and absolutely burning up. Finally I started screaming at some poor guy and we got admitted.
She spent the next two full weeks in fever induced coma and three more weeks in the hospital total. She nearly lost her leg at one point it was about three times its normal size. To this day she has ruined circulation in her legs from the damage caused by the infection. It relapsed once and we have been told that it could again, it really never leaves.
Mal....DO NOT MESS WITH INFECTION

I'll add my voice here: don't screw with this.... My mother almost lost her leg last year, and we had to admit her to the hospital in Christmas day. Her leg was as bright red as a boiled lobster.....

Well, if you want to wait until Monday, just keep a very close eye on it and him for the rest of the weekend. If he starts to run a fever or get really tired, get any of the streaking marks, or inflammation/stiffness anywhere, get him to a doctor. Staph infections are nothing to be messed with...they can quickly and easily become deadly and are notoriously difficult to treat. And be sure he follows the doctor's instructions this time -- especially re. finishing all prescribed antibiotics.
Why finish taking antibiotics when you start to feel better?
1) The infection may not yet be gone; a relapse is much more likely
2) The causative organism (bad bug) isn't completely eliminated, and it has a good chance of rebounding in an even stronger form where that antibiotic won't work well again...and this is the biggest cause of antibiotic resistance.
Good luck and take care.

MAL!!! Get him to the ER NOW! Not many people know this story but....(NO pun intended)
Just after we returned home after MOTM 2005, I had a sore on my "bum". Not in the very personal area, just where a swim suit bottom did NOT cover. It continued to get sore, and hard and red and yucky. AND IT HURT!!! BAD!!! Finally, I called my doctor. She admitted me and a surgeon had to cut a piece of my heiny out. It was a hole bigger than hubby's thumb! We tease about it being "Key West Butt Rot" but it was a staph infection. Doctor's think I picked it up sitting on things in KW that had been washed over by hurricane water (either beach chairs or the bikes we rented) . LOTS of germs on those items and in a bathing suit, not much is covered. Had I waited any longer, I could have died. I felt terrible and I couldn't sit, or lay down and to stand was uncomfortable too. And to top it all off, the day of surgery, a tornado hit and the entire hospital lost power and the generator can run lights and machines but isn't bright enough for cutting on people. So, have hunny see a physian as soon as you can. The infection can get into his blood stream and make him HORRIBLY SICK!
Phin power coming you way!

I have a dent in my right shinbone as a result of a staph infiction. Happened when I was around 14 or 15. The s*** was eating my shinbone. Doctor wasn't too happy that we waited until Monday to go see him.
I believe you know what I'm getting at here.

Geez louise people!!
I do thank you for your concern. So far he's feelin' fine today and just about to go soak his leg again. They aren't getting any bigger, so we'll still prolly just keep an eye on it overnight and get him in first thing in the morning.
Even if I tried, I couldn't get him to go to the ER right now. He's just too stubborn.

He feels fine in the mornings, but after a day of being on his leg, it gets real swollen and icky.

We carpooled to work today, so if I go, he has to go or it's a long bus ride home (and he's not so good at that sort of thing). He is at my mercy today.
