Go to the doctor immediately.
Prescription meds (possibly via IV) are the only thing that will kill the infection so the wound can begin to heal.

He'll go on Monday. He had two shots in the butt of antibiotics last time.
We've been watching the sores for red streaks, and so far nada. That's the sign of the real BAD BAD staph infection.
I think he chintzed on finishing his RX antibiotics last time, so maybe this is paybacks!

Thanks E. Yeah, it's gettin' a little old, that's for sure and all the stuff I've read on the Internet kinda has me freaked out.

Of course, everything you read on the Internet is true.

You made a good point on the antibiotics. Take the meds until they run out. Some folks (myself included) want to stop taking the meds when they start to see improvement in their condition.

take his butt to the doctor
NOW!!!
Steven had a staph infection when he was a baby. I had to wash it with phisophex (or was it phisoderm - if I spelled either right

) put some kinda creme on it and he nad to be on antibiotics.

The nurseline said as long as it's not streaking red (like zebra stripes) he can wait to be seen until Monday. It's $125 for ER trip vs. $25 for Dr. visit.
If it was the kiddos, that's a different story, but he's stingy when it comes to himself!

How do you know it is a staph instead of just an infection?

when Steven had one it looked more like a rash than anything. In fact that's why I took him in to the doctor - it was a wierd rash.

We don't 100%, but it looks like the ones I've seen in pictures and stuff. He's seeing a dermatologist on Monday instead of his normal doc, so hopefully we'll know more then.
It actually looks a lot like an infected ingrown hair follicle, but he's never had problems with those before which makes us think it's most likely something else.

Definitely see the doc. Epsom salt is no match for this. I have a friend who is HIV positive, so he has a decreased ability to fight this stuff to begin with. He has (another) staff infection that looks (literally-I've seen it) like it's eating a whole through his leg. Staff infections are nothing to mess with.

Thanks so much everyone. Evidently folliculitis, which is what the doc called it last time, is a form of staph infection, so at least I'm not losing my mind!!
I'll keep ya updated tho.

My BIL almost lost a leg to it this summer. It started on his foot and within an few days it was touch and go on whether he was going to have his leg amputated. Don't mess around with it!
