Michael Hutchence also isn't still around to kick them in their collective asses and tell them how disrespectful and shabby it is for INXS to go on a "reality" show to find a new singer for the band. Thankfully John Densmore was still around to put a stop to the travesty known as the 21st Century Doors. Would fans ever accept a replacement for Buffett if he were ever to meet an untimely demise and the Reefers went on a reality show to find a replacement? I seriously doubt it.

Does it change how you listen to and appreciate old INXS music? It shouldn't. The band, collectively, has the right to do with it's namesake as it wishes and that is to continue performing. Why would they owe Hutchence respect now anyway... especially by not performing with a new lead singer? (no matter how they auditioned him)

What's done is done but I don't agree with it. A big reason why is because Hutchence isn't here to speak for himself and the fact that it was done via a cheesy-ass "reality" show. Again, how would Buffett fans feel if he got run over by an SUV and the surviving Reefers went on some similar show to hold auditions for a new singer? Some bands (Beatles, Zep) know when to call it quits, some (the list is nearly endless) don't.

While I agree with you to a certain extent, I feel obligated to point out that the only reason Led Zeppelin hasn't mounted a reunion tour with Jason Bonham on drums is because John Paul Jones won't do it.

Hey, I agree about some bands just have to leave their past work in the past and move on with new projects or whatever. But the real creative forces behind INXS are the dudes still alive, the Farriss brothers. I think they deserve to continue on with their band. And whether or not you're a fan of reality television shows or not, Rockstar INXS really wasn't 'cheesy' at all. I definitely thought it had the potential to be a total train wreck. I didn't expect much of it at all and thought it would damage a really awesome band's reputation. I watched it and I was pleasantly surprised with how tasteful it was. Dave Navarro's role was really good too. That being said, I don't know if it could be duplicated with another band... especially not VH. INXS' music is still fresh and appealing to a younger audience that probably wasn't listening to them in the late 80s/early 90s... although older fans might get really jazzed about a new-look VH, I don't think they have the appeal to a younger audience anymore.

I think the Beatles should do a reality show to replace Ringo.

I never mentioned anything about Jason Bonham being on drums. I just said Zeppelin has actually stayed true to their word by not reuniting and if they're wise (which I believe them to be), they never will. The closest thing to a Led Zeppelin reunion we're ever likely to see has already happened and that would be Page & Plant's tours in support of
Unledded and
Walking Into Clarksdale. Jason has now slipped into the deepest depths of suckitude by drumming for Foriegner.

Agree. I wish Queen hadn't come back out of retirement.
Queen = Mercury,May,Taylor,Deacon.
Zeppelin = Plant,Page,Jones,(John)Bonham
Beatles = Lennon,McCartney,Harrison,Starkey
Some bands can pull it off with rotating members, some can't.

I don't think what Queen is doing is really the same thing. From what I gather Paul Rodgers has in no way been named as any sort of official replacement for Freddie Mercury. From all I've read and heard they seemed to have teamed up just for the fun of it. I was never a big fan of Queen's but from the live cuts I've heard they seem to be having a blast rockin' through all of those old songs which I believe is all they ever intended to do.

It's funny Queen should come up though. At one point they were thought to be the next "Rock Star" band. I've also heard that Dave Navarro may be using it to recruit a singer for his new band, Camp Freddy.

The last thing I heard was that the next run of shows would feature an all star band. One thing is for sure, I won't be watching.

I also think it's a good thing that The Beatles and Led Zep never reunited. They both sucked, especially the Beatles - the most overrated band ever!

Camp Freddy actually is an "all-star" band. They just haven't recorded anything yet.

Well, that's one person's opinion. There's a lot of bands who's music I don't particularly care for but I have no problem whatsoever acknowledging their contributions to rock n' roll. Like it or not, the Beatles changed the face of rock n' roll and took it from the teen idol stage of Fabian and Pat Boone to a whole other level. They were also among the first that actually were a group; played their own instruments, wrote their own songs and recorded albums that were meant to be listened to from beginning to end, not just a couple of singles and the rest, filler. Similarly, Led Zeppelin took the blues and built upon it, creating (alongside other bands such as Cream and the Jimi Hendrix Experience) a whole new genre of music while they were at.

"Rockstar" Returns, Without a Band
Last year's successful CBS series, Rockstar: INXS, which made Canadian singer JD FORTUNE the new frontman for the Australian rockers, is slated to return for a second season. But while former JANE'S ADDICTION guitarist DAVE NAVARRO will stay on as host, the new season will feature new rock singer-songwriters competing for a major-label contract with Burnett Records/Epic. Guest musicians will appear on the weekly summer show. Auditions will be held in various cities across North America, beginning March 1st in Austin.

Well look who is being quick to judge.

There are actually a lot of credible rock artists that are participating in these collaborative 'all-star' bands. Cardboard Vampyres is a hybrid group of guys from various bands, namely Jerry Cantrell and Billy Duffy, that got together to play covers at first, but are working on original material too.

I'm just not too fond of the show despite the participants. The one good thing about it is at least it's rock n' roll.
