I fail to see why anyone accidently shooting anyone should be major new.If you are in a traffic accident should that be major news?
There is no question that it is news if the Vice-President of the United States shoots someone. As mentioned, it's not a party thing. It's not a statement on Cheney. It's common sense that if the VP, POTUS, or anyone of similar stature in leadership, shoots someone, gets in accident, has a medical problem etc to be reported.

Hey Garry,

Was the ice age as cold as they say it was?
You live in Peoria-walk outside and find out.
That is so true. It is bitter cold outside. I think it will get down to 22 tonight but up to about 55 for Tuesday and Wednesday but back down to the 20's and 30's for the rest of the week. No wonder I have a cold. I really shouldn't b**** about my cold, it is the first one that I have had in about 4 years!

Maybe on another day we can all "discuss" global warming. (Or the lack thereof).

Ha, compared to the Ice Age (which I vividly recall from my childhood), this is balmy.

Yes, Harry Truman was president in 1951. I was born in December of that year, which means YOU'RE older than ME.
FINALLY SOMEBODY admits to being older than me.
I feel SO good right now.

Dang Bro, you ough'ta be down here with me sharing my bottle of Irish. ( Strictly for medcinal purposes of course  ) and a good pot of chilli to ward off the cold. We are expecting a HARD Freeze tonight around 25 I think. It has been 32 or lower since 2100 ( 9:00PM)

Could break out the chess set and have a go or two, if that might be to your interest. 8)

the part that got me is that they were "QUAILE" hunting

Late night TV comics target Cheney
Letterman, Leno and Stewart poke fun at the hunting mishap

Updated: 9:33 p.m. ET Feb. 13, 2006
LOS ANGELES - Television talk shows took aim Monday at Vice President Dick Cheney’s accidental weekend shooting in Texas of a hunting companion. Here’s a few of the jokes.

‘Late Show with David Letterman,’ CBS
“Good news, ladies and gentlemen, we have finally located weapons of mass destruction: It’s Dick Cheney.”

“But here is the sad part — before the trip Donald Rumsfeld had denied the guy’s request for body armor.”

“We can’t get Bin Laden, but we nailed a 78-year-old attorney.”

“The guy who got gunned down, he is a Republican lawyer and a big Republican donor and fortunately the buck shot was deflected by wads of laundered cash. So he’s fine. He took a little in the wallet.”

‘The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,’ NBC
“Although it is beautiful here in California, the weather back East has been atrocious. There was so much snow in Washington, D.C., Dick Cheney accidentally shot a fat guy thinking it was a polar bear.

“That’s the big story over the weekend. ... Dick Cheney accidentally shot a fellow hunter, a 78-year-old lawyer. In fact, when people found out he shot a lawyer, his popularity is now at 92 percent.”

“I think Cheney is starting to lose it. After he shot the guy he screamed, ‘Anyone else want to call domestic wire tapping illegal?”’

“Dick Cheney is capitalizing on this for Valentine’s Day. It’s the new Dick Cheney cologne. It’s called Duck!”

‘The Daily Show with Jon Stewart,’ Comedy Central
“Vice President Dick Cheney accidentally shot a man during a quail hunt ... making 78-year-old Harry Whittington the first person shot by a sitting veep since Alexander Hamilton. Hamilton, of course, [was] shot in a duel with Aaron Burr over issues of honor, integrity and political maneuvering. Whittington? Mistaken for a bird.”

“Now, this story certainly has its humorous aspects. ... But it also raises a serious issue, one which I feel very strongly about. ... moms, dads, if you’re watching right now, I can’t emphasize this enough: Do not let your kids go on hunting trips with the vice president. I don’t care what kind of lucrative contracts they’re trying to land, or energy regulations they’re trying to get lifted — it’s just not worth it.”

That was the OLD WAYS Pops! Now they do it with DNA samples. They give you a bottle of God's Holy water, and snag the sample and you never know it happened.

Why is that? The press does not need to be alerted to EVERYTHING that happens within 5 seconds of it happening, if at all, IMO.
One more time, The Vice President Shot Someone! Why is this so hard to understand? I like to think that when our Vice President is involved in a shooting accident, that the press be involved. I know this will take headlines away from Brad and Angela or Brad and Jen. Who knows!!!! But hey, that could be just me. I do live in this world with rose colored glassed on!
Joe:
I also am getting sick to death of hearing about every time Brad and Jennifer pass gas, but believe me, in 30 years when I'm at the great margaritaville in the sky, the press will still be going on and on and on and on and on and on about this. 12 hours won't matter that much. You KNOW as soon as they get THEIR snot noses into anything involving this administration, it won't go away in ANY of our lifetimes. 12 hours-no big deal when it's a Republican.
Oh, I am not saying that it is a Republican or Democrat thing. I don't care what party you belong to but if our VP shoots someone, I think it is news. My whole point goes back to Sam not thinking it was news in the first place. When something like this happens with the VP, it is news. Case closed. Doesn't matter is you are a Dem or a Pepublican.
CaptainJoe you are right! If the VP had been shot, heaven forbid, we would have known about it immediately. Why not the reverse? It is news in the purest form and should have been reported in a more timely matter.

The only thing I have to say is
If he did this to a loyal Republican, what would he have done if it was a Democrat! :D :o  May I have some popcorn please.
