You can call me a cynic (one or two others have over the years

), but the Suburbans and Chevy pick ups aren't worth THEIR sticker prices either.
I admit I'm anything BUT an economist, but I can't help but think if cars/trucks/vans were sold for WHAT THEY'RE WORTH, a lot of people who complain about high gas prices WOULDN'T.
But that's just me-what do I know. I'm just a drunk from Iowa putting in my time until I die.

Not sour-
I just don't get why some people have such a hatred for them and people who own them.
But whatever. If peope don't want them, they certainly are free to drive whatever they choose. I just don't care for what some refer to as AUTOMOBILES, when, in reality, all they are are lawnmowers with doors.

I don't really have anything against SUVs but I do wonder how many people that own them actually use for what they were built for (off-roading, camping, etc.) and ony have them as a status symbol.
As for high gas prices, look no further than our own government for that. Ain't got a thing to do with tree huggers.

Towing all those boats around??
I've had my Jeep off-road a couple times...wish it were more, and it probably hasn't been enough to justify having it...but it's been fun to do.

They do if people WANT them. But I agree 50,000 dollars is a bit ridiculous.
If your gonna spend 50,000 mays well spend a lil more and get this....
This is
ONLY $452,750

You work hard, you live a clean life, you NEED to reward yourself in SOME way. Whether it's off-roading in an S.U.V., hauling a boat to the lake/ocean, going to a concert, ballgame, or whatever. Life isn't always supposed to be so serious.
ESPECIALLY for parrotheads.

People that own SUVs as a status symbol remind me of the folks you may see in bars decked out in Harley gear. Ever see what they drive when they leave the place? Admitted, there are quite a few bikers out there that actually drive motorcycles but there's also many that are wannabes that drive BMWs.

but there IS a reason for those vehicles to be on the road-the people who own them WANT them. Period!
People
want a lot of things, but that doesn't mean they
need them. Most people, in fact, don't need these trucks on the road that guzzle gas and not something that the drivers can handle. We invaded a country over a strategic national interest in oil. Now given the incredible need we have for oil, it would make sense to "support our troops" by buying something that doesn't waste oil like these trucks do. Yes some people have valid uses for them, but most definitely do not.
If a person wants one and he/she can afford one, then more power to him/her.
It IS my business for the reasons stated above.
As for our dependence on Middle East oil-there is a VERY easy way to eliminate that "problem" if the environmentalist kooks would simply take their stupid signs, shut up, go home, get a JOB, or whatever-and that is to MAKE MORE *NEW* refineries in this country and start tapping into our EXISTING resources.
That is an assinine statement. Of course, you bring up totally irrelevant "kooks" instead of the people that have propelled these trucks to cash cows that they are for Detroit. And of course you don't bring up, the automakers themselves. Nah, they aren't kooks. Maybe a little more thought and little less Rush and Hannity attitude might help resolve the situation.
Also-this can be another topic for another day-but it's always amazed me how people complain about high gas prices, but nobody EVER complains about the UNGODLY high prices of automobiles.
$30,000.00 for a CAR??? Give me a break!
Hey we agree on something...

I think this statement might have been taken out of context.
Quite frankly I HATE SUV's but only because most of them are gas guzzlers, that increase our dependence on foreign oil (and result in higher gas prices for everyone else).
Plus, the average person driving cannot possibly handle an SUV, that's one of the reasons that there are so many rollover accidents (after you go over 70 MPH its sort of hard to maintain the center of gravity on one of those things.)
Note, I'm not referring to "modern" SUVs because they have gotten somewhat safer and more reliable, but the Ford Explorer definitely falls into the HATE category (as does the HUMMER).

Pardon me, but who are
we to tell ANYBODY what they NEED?
As for my environmentalist comment-yeah, people who walk around with signs because nobody else gives a damm what they have to say ARE kooks!
They complain about high gas prices, but will have a freaking COW of their own if we suggest drilling for oil in THIS country, or off it's coasts. THAT'S being kooky, my friend.
As for your "cash cows" in Detroit comment-I agree, ALL cars are way WAY overpriced, but at the same time, I don't expect them to sell Cadillacs for $10.00 either.
The only thing I'd say to anyone who hates S.U.V.s is the same thing I'd say to anyone who's against abortion-Don't like them? Don't GET one.

I'm not "telling" I'm stating the obvious.

How many of those people do you see?

It's irrational responses like this that miss the point. Again, we are at war because of national interest in stability in the Middle East (for secure oil access). Reducing our dependency will help our cause. Now, given the need reduce our dependency, it makes sense that we should evaluate our
needs for the vehicles that we purchase.
This is bigger than environmental reasons.

a) watching someone with an SUV mince up and over a speedbump in a parking lot is hilarious to me for some reason.. Or the triple-chinned, XXXXL attorney/doctor in the Indiana Jones Stetson fedora, bomber jacket and $80k SUV who lives a whopping 2 blocks from the arterial in his subdivision driving around like an inch of snow is Peary's trip to the Pole.
b) or they are compensating for a male member so dead/tiny even Viagra can't get a salute...

Most of today's SUVs aren't built for off-roading at all. They're people movers with a cooler stigma than mini-vans. Some are built for off-roading, yes, but most would break in half on anything tougher than a dirt road.

I have an SUV... an Explorer Sport.. The reason bought it was because I often need to carry lots of things and the trunk of my civic just didn't cut it. The gas mileage is not much worse than the civic either. I also have now decided that I like sitting up high and being able to see over traffic, it helps avoid accidents when you live in Snowbird Country. I don't see it as a status symbol as it is an 2001 and there are much nicer vehicles out there.. but I love it. Bottom line is people drive what they like/can afford.
