No wonder so many democrats get elected.

What I was saying doesn't have anything to do with partisan views. Personally I try my best to listen to all sides and vote for who I think is best for the job.
JAHFIN, JAHFIN, JAHFIN!!!!!
As a matter of fact, YES! I
WOULD like fries with that.

I think everybody missed the point that it really makes little difference what he drives on the ground...how many miles do you think Jimmy actually puts on a vehicle a year? He jets around in the Falcon burning a couple of hundred gallons of fuel per hour. Now, does it really matter if he drives an SUV or not?

and the difference between him traveling by private jet or commercial liner? If we are going to factor all the gas burned for travel, might as chalk us up for trips made so it's apples and apples..

The difference between private jet or commercial liner would be a fuel savings based on scale....200 folks flying instead of a handful.
Personally, I don't care how he (or we) get anywhere!

He can afford the several thousand dollars per hour operating expenses on his jet.

I can afford the few dollars per hour operating expenses on my car.
Just a general observation though...the tailgating parking lots are never filled with economy cars and hybrid vehicles!

All I was trying to say on the jet-fuel part: his private jet probably burns as much as a big jet on a per/person load, and then you factor in the part that it lets him land in smaller airports closer to his destination, cutting down on the amount of gas used to get from airport to meeting/home/etc.
not as many hybrid choices out there either. :?

There are simply too many of these trucks on the road and there is absolutely NO reason for 90% of them to be on the road making it difficult for the rest of us to around us, making it more likely for accidents to happen, and also increasing our dependency on the Middle East.
stay off the raod and they will not get in your way as for dependency on middle east oil open ANWR and we can take care of our own needs.

Thank you for finally making my point. I was feeling beat up on. My point exactly.
I think it is as irresponsible to drive a car, a boat, a plane, a Harley, a convertible. . . whatever, if it is just for recreation. However, if your driving with business in mind, is it anyone else's business what you are driving?
Now before you take exception with what I just said. . . I know that I'm making a completely idealistic, irrational and otherwise stupid statement.
Only someone with their head planted firmly between their own cheeks could think that way, but let's face it. . . we are an oil dependent country!
Even the few "radicals" out there that would actually agree with my above statement still get done bitchin' and hop in their "gas powered" hybrids and drive away (only to get home, pull the boat out of the garage for the weekend and go burn up 30 gallons on the local lake).
What we need are legislators firmly behind finding alternative fuels, but that won't happen so long as Oil PAC's payoff the congress, senate and elect oil baron presidents from Texas (and I was a Reagan Republican).
In the meantime this SUV controversy is lunacy and is only going to end up doing one thing in the end. . . padding a politician's pocket with more of an ever-growing barrel of pork and extend the government's hand even deeper into my pocket.
If you follow conventional wisdom, there are more oil customer's every day. There is less oil to supply the growing need. So, shouldn't we instead of bitching about what each other drives, or plays in, try and find alternative sources of energy. Aren't the oil companies all experiencing record profits right now? Don't there seem to be bigger questions, rather than worrying about the (RINGLING) "'fat soccer mom' driving her SUV year round, so she can feel safe for the two weeks there is snow on the ground".
Ringling. . . buddy, she'd be driving an even bigger minivan if she wasn't in that SUV! She can't afford the Volvo!!!
Instead of turning this into another "tax the rich" argument (because of course, only "rich" people can afford an SUV). Shouldn't we be pressing our congressmen and senators to be pushing alternative fuel & energy research as opposed to trying to dip into our pockets for more 'sin' tax money? Because I guarantee you, today its SUVs, tomorrow trucks and then finally anyone that owns a recreational vehicle of any sort (riding lawn mower, could you see that?)!!!
By the way, any of you crazy radical libs out there . . . you'll be absolutely crazy to find out that I am going to school to become a helicopter pilot. Did you know the average training helicopter burns 10-16gph (GALLONS PER HOUR)???
HEHEHE!!! I have a 100+ hours already and I need 100 more to get my CFI license, so I can train other students doing the same and then I need 800 hours more before I can fly for a professional carrier. . .
Oh, and there are over 1000 other students nationwide doing the same thing as me. . . and that's just helicopter student pilots.
Oh and because of you extreme enviromental wack jobs worrying about noise in the precious environment, I also burn through probably an extra tank of gas every week (in my SUV), just so I can get to the airport because they have to be so far out in the middle of nowhere!
The answer is clear. . . gas is burning up and there is no stopping it. We need a new supply of fuel, a new energy source, not legislation controlling the current supply, legislation providing us a NEW supply. Whether that be that new corn based 'ethonal', hydrogen fuel, solar cells, a "Back to the Future" style 'Mr Fusion' powered by waster. . . or whatever!
In the meantime stop bitchin' though and pass the tequila - I need another Margarita!!!

My above "thread" was completely fesicious. Do I think we need new energy, of course. But in the meantime, I don't want to be made to feel guilty when I have to drive (or fly) somewhere.
There is enough guilt in this life already, I don't need anymore thrust on me. . . that is why I stopped going to church!
Okay, pass the tequila again!

OHMIGAH, Penny ! These businesses must be destroyed. They are the ruination of our society, of course they use the most resources available to humankind.
If you buy that, I have some land here in NW Tennessee that will go up in price very soon. Very. Soon.

Needless trucks should stay off the road. ANWR only buys some time. If we are serious about national security, if we are serious about supporting our troops and not supporting terrorists funds, then we
mustreduce our dependecy on their oil and ultimately oil period.
Now are all can be shallow about it and folks can tell me to go to hell as this is 'merica and "I'll drive whatever the hell I want" etc etc. but such juvenile stubbornness just doesn't get it. These are real world problems that big boys and girls need to address.
Childish whining doesn't resolve this most serious issue and such remarks belong on the AM dial.

Sounds good. But, like ya said..this is America...land of the free and the hypocrites!

We don't go on diets until we are too fat and don't go into rehab before we need to kick the habit...

I've seen quite a few soccer mom's in the big fake Hummers in my area . They're always so sparkling clean and never used off road but you know what? It's their choice.
If you're willling to pay the gas prices and most of all, if it makes you happy then by all means go for it!!
My dad hates riding in my Jeep. Says it's too loud, too bumpy, has a lack of luxury features, etc. BUT.........I like it and that's all that matters.
